QUESTION:

The question which I wanted to ask was that, are men allowed to wear gold
plated tie clips? In many instances there is more of another metal than
the gold. Ask this question according to the fatwa of Ayatollah Seestani. 


ANSWER:

It is haram for men to wear gold (e.g., gold ring, gold chain or gold
wrist-watch) at all times: in salat and outside salat. 

However, it is permissible for men to use gold-plated items just as it is
permissible for them to carry (not wear) gold items like gold coins or
pocket-watch. 

See: Ayatullah Sistani, Minhaju 's-Salihiyn, vol. 1, p. 177. This is also
the view of most mujtahids.
