Salaams & Duas Ummulbanin Merali - Moderator - 'Aalim Network ******************************************************************************** QUESTION: A brother in Killeen, TX is faced with a situation, whereby a wahhabi preacheress is raising an objection against reading faatiha etc. for the dead. She asks to be shown where such an act is written to be permitted. It would be nice to know an answer which would cater to this need. ANSWER: To read Fateha for the dead or to pray for them is not Haram. It is praying for them to be forgiven and blessed. If you refer to the Holy Quran Chapter 59 (al Hashr) verse l0, you will see how it describes the believers praying for the forgiveness of the people who have preceded them in faith - without discriminating between those dead and those alive. Besides, the Prophet peace be upon him, used to frequent at the cemetery of Baquee in Madina and pray for the dead. Asgharali M.M. Jaffer
