QUESTION:

Salam:

Q1. What do you say about (Hadithat Al-ifk)(24:11) in surat Al-Noor?
Is the Shia interpretation the same as the Sunni one? Please explain.

Also what is the meaning of 24:26. Is it good men for good women?

Q2. What is meant by 9:40 as well? Some say that this is a testimony from
God in supporting Abu-Bakr?

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As-Salaam,

Basically, the Ahadith regarding this incident in which Ayesha was
wrongfully accused of immodesty is narrated by all Muslims in the same
manner. Shi'ah scholars are more emphatic, however, that the wives of the
Holy Prophet (S) were all chaste women. Some Sunni scholars have not made
that point as strongly, however.

Regarding the reference to good men for good women, it means that men and
women who are chaste should marry others who are chaste since that is what
is most appropriate. Men and women who are fornicators do not deserve
chaste partners, as fornicators and chaste people are not equal in Allah's
sight.

No doubt that the verse 9:40 is a reference to Abu Bakr. It is a matter of
fact that he accompanied the Holy Prophet (S) and was in the cave with him.
As to whether it was some "support" for him, I'm not sure what you are
implying. No one had any serious objections to Abu Bakr until the time of
the Prophet's fatal illness. This verse cannot prove anything beyond the
historical context in which it was revealed. Allah knows best.

Was-Salaam,

Ali Rasheed
