I've known Andrew practically since the day he first stepped off the plane at the San Francisco Airport. Well, perhaps not since that very day, but all the same, I've known him for most of the time that he's been here in the States, which is almost a year now. He is currently working at Upshot Technologies, doing something or other to prevent the whole network from collapsing. :)
Andrew is an amazing and most rare example of someone who has not been scarred or damaged by life, past girlfriends or whatever it is that makes most guys our age weird, problematic, and utterly undatable. Up until I met him, I used to think that the mentality of "I know I've got faults, but I don't care... You can take it or leave it. If we aren't perfect for each other as we are, we should just break up" was absolutely normal and standard. Well, for anyone out there who still thinks so -- it's NOT TRUE!
I always imagine having really great intellectual conversations with David. Unfortunately, as I said, I mostly only imagine them, because David must be one of the busiest people I know. Another distinguishing feature is that he is very well read, or at least puts on a wonderful appearance, which makes talking to him simply exhilarating (and extremely intimidating as well). Nor does it help a bit that he is so dashingly handsome! :)
In the spring of 1998 David graduated from Harvard University with a major in economics, and has this year begun his studies at Yale Law School. Some people just have it all. :)
David Patrick is one of my few remaining high school friends. Besides being in almost all the same classes together starting with 10th grade, we also played for our high school chess team. Ah, those were the days! :)
He is also here at Cal, double majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have any idea where to look for mp3s and other such good stuff.
Elena also went to the infamous Los Altos High School with David Patrick and I. She was the co-founder of the Younger Writers' Society with me. With a total membership of four, our "society" met during Thursday lunch periods in Mr. Rosenberg's room, where we fantasized about our glamorous futures as the great fiction writers of the 21st century.
Elena currently attends Stanford University, and promises to make her own page soon. I have no choice but to believe her, and perhaps periodically nag her about it.
What can I even begin to say about Gundars? Anyone who knows me at all is aware of his importance in my life. We've known each other for over six years and been practically inseparable for the past four. He is my best friend, my confidant, and mentor all in one. When I was 15, he took my tiny universe and expanded it tenfold just by his presence. Then he taught me what he knew about life.
Gundars, a Berkeley graduate in Geography (Class of '98), is a student at the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark.
Jason is an Ehrman Hall survivor. He lived a floor below me in the dorms our freshman year and was smart enough to escape after the first semester. He and I only really became friends last year when we both moved to Virginia St. and ended up within a half a block of each other. I've gotta tell ya, nothing builds friendship like going out to look for an open restaurant at 11pm on a school night! That's what college life is all about! :)
Jason is an economics and mathematics major, who is looking forward to a life of travel somewhere on the periphery of human civilization. My latest communique from him, in fact, informs me that he's left India and will soon join Gundars in his travels. On a random side note, he likes obscure foreign films that no one's ever heard of.
Although Michael is also a product of the Los Altos High School, I didn't really get to know him until I came to Berkeley in the Fall of '96. He was a frequent guest in my tiny Ehrman dorm room, where we drove my roommates crazy with our late-night talks.
Michael has taken a leave of absence or whatever it's called when you say "I'll be back in the indefinite future" and take off from law school, and is now somewhere in southern France, more specifically Marseilles, teaching little French munchins English. My biggest fear is that when Mike gets back, he'll speak English with a French accent. No info from France yet, but you can click here for a picture of Michael and I at some terribly over-priced restaurant on Pier 39.

Yes, it is the same Simba as in Lion King. He is a stuffed toy and a wonderful friend, who will always give me a hug when I need one and be with me when I am feeling lonely. He is also a very good listener and just the sweetest thing in the world. Gundars gave him to me as a present for Christmas one year, and since then, Simba has come to represent all the best moments that Gundars and I have ever shared.
Simba has no formal education is not affiliated with any university.
Yelena and I go way back to the time when I first came to the United States, which was in December '90. She and I went to Roosevelt Middle School in San Francisco together and became best friends. My family then moved out to the suburbs, but we stayed friends. She now goes to Berkeley and we see each other almost on a daily basis. It's really cool how life works out!
Yelena is my shrink and counselor on my love life, so here's a tip for any potential future boyfriend -- you'd better get on her good side! :) As far as random facts go, Yelena and I are known to have sleep-overs, where we stay up till all hours and take stupid pictures of each other. Watch out, some of these may appear in the Photo Gallery soon.
Technically, I've known Yuri for about three years. I first saw him at a KVN game sometime my freshman year, but I didn't really get to know him well until we ran into each other again in early October of this year.
I really admire Yuri because he is one of those rare people who is truly passionate about his interests. He is also wonderfully engaging and, I believe, can make even the dullest subject sound absolutely fascinating. He is responsible for introducing me, a self-professed homebody, to the world of camping and the outdoors as well as to many, many radios.
Yuri is in his last year at Cal, majoring in Electrical Engineering. He is concurrently working for the Berkeley Space Science Labs, where he is building an antenna for a satellite! Cool, huh?! (He also absolutely hates having his picture taken, only God knows why.)
If you are interested in reading about me, just follow the link and you'll end up on my homepage, which will provide more information, pictures, etc. No point writing about myself here, when this entire site is really about me anyway. :)
This is the Photo Gallery. All the funny, silly, cute pictures that are lying around my place will probably eventually find their way onto this page. For now it's only a small collection of pictures, but with time it will GROW, so keep checking back.
