THE HEALING ART OF

AROMATHERAPY

The definition of Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils to seek to influence, to change or modify, mind, body or spirit, physiology or mood.  Most cleaning products (particularly for personal grooming) are fragranced with various essences to make them more pleasant, yet how often do we think, "How is this fragrance going to effect me?"  Many people decide solely on whether or not they like the fragrance or if they are allergic to it, not taking into consideration that all these subtle aromas combined will effect our wellbeing.

A common description of aromatherapy treatment is the use of aromatic substances or essential oils to stimulate a healing response within the physical, mental and emotional bodies of the individual.  Essential oil applications may be via:

Pure oil
Rubbing alcohol
Perfume (spray)
Soap (almost any cleaning product)

With these various applications, we can begin to understand how aromatherapy effects our daily lives.  By using an oil or incense burner we are knowingly promoting a state of relaxation or harmony within ourselves.  We spray perfume into the wardrobe or onto ourselves, through our hair to make ourselves smell more attractive (to mask body odour).  All soap is fragranced, also creating another mindset for us.

On top of all this, each person has their own body odour.  No matter how we mask it, it's there and our subconscious brain takes it into consideration.  When an aroma from another person is liked, you will be attracted towards them.  Similarly, if their personal aroma is disliked, you will feel a repulsion from them.  Much of human behaviour depends on the smell of others (for example, ovulating females will be irritated by each other and all males will have some kind of attractive value to them for at least two days during this time).  Oils can help with the mood swings of such times.

SOME AROMATHERAPY OILS AND THEIR USES

Strengthens and tones digestion by cleaning all systems of mucous

Maximum time use -> 4 weeks (5 weeks use and you will lose 50% of brain activity)

Known as an "antisocial oil" (prolonged use gives flatulence with discharge, runny nose, and you cough up flegm whenever you try to speak)

ANISEED

Used for depression and absent-mindedness

Increases the diaphragm activity (encourages people to live in the moment and act on impulse)

To be used for no more than one month at a time (then give the body a break for two months)

Found in Earl Grey tea (people who drink this regularly will show signs of what this essential oil is used for)

BERGAMOT

BLACK PEPPER

Used for muscle pain in athletes, and for back pain in people who are not so active

Will also increase bowel movements

To be used with caution, as it will give a bladder attack in people who have gall stones present

Eliminates poisons from the body

Worm emulsifier

Drops body size (not weight)

CARROT SEED

Makes people want to communicate (useful for clients who are closed off as it stimulates them to tell things they were not planning on telling)

Great for getting people to open up during counselling sessions and check-ups

DILL

GERANIUM

Used in China for "Dragon's Thunder" (PMS)

Calms and sedates

GERMAN CHAMOMILE

Relaxes the nerves but keeps reflexes quick (good to use on people who become highly strung at work as it will relax them but not sedate them too much for them to do any work)

GRAPEFRUIT

Stimulates the appetite (in Japan this oil is circulated through the ventilation half an hour before the lunch break to ensure all workers are eating adequately)

Stimulates the vocal centre (very good for quiet people)

Deep-freezes emotions

Maximum time use - two hours in one sitting

Used extensively throughout homes for the elderly

LAVENDAR

PEPPERMINT

Antidote from bladder attack (as may be stimulated from Carrot Seed)

Used in cough syrups for flavour

Used in after-dinner mints to improve digestion after a fatty meal

Soporiphic wears off after 8 hours (great to use in massage oil if partner wants sex but you don't)

Stimulates liver regeneration

Strong sedative and calming nervine (not to be used in the workplace or on those people who have to drive home from the clinic, as you will have no responses or reflexes)

ROMAN CHAMOMILE

ROSE AND JASMINE

A supposed "aphrodisiac" blend, it lengthens the period and intensity of ovulation in females and is guaranteed to get you pregnant (singles will partner within 3 months and be pregnant in 12 months)

SWEET MARJORAM

Anaphrodisiac (guaranteed to turn off libido)

Induces sleep until the body has completely healed itself (lasts approximately 2 - 3 days) and you will wake with an appetite!!!

VIRGINIAN CEDARWOOD

Contraindicated in pregnancy

Bowel regulator and a digestive improver

An "aphrodisiac" provided the moon is new (during a full moon expect no sex)

Reduces inhibitions

Boosts self-confidence

Cannot wear around animals who have not been castrated (stallions have been known to break down their stable door to get to a person wearing this oil)

YLANG YLANG

PRESCRIBING OILS

Wearing the oil directly on your body will generate a response on all levels.  20 drops of essential oil is enough to rub into the entire body, so use sparingly or you will overdose yourself!!!  Use a base oil first for better lubricant, and then apply the essential oil (avocado oil is a good base for massage).  Inhalation via an incense burner acts primarily on an emotional level.

Daily use of aromatherapy oils will increase a person's fertility.  This does not change with age - women who are sterile (even if this is after menopause) begin to menstruate again - those who are still fertile will develop a perfect 28-day cycle, menstruate less and have a greater libido.

All of the above applies when seeing a qualified Aromatherapist - it is not recommended that those who are experimenting with various essential oils use the pure oil (dilutions can be found in general shops and outlets).
