e should not run headlong into the new millennium without reflecting on what a thousand years really means. There is so much hype and buzz about the last hundred years alone, but what did it take to get us this far? Man has survived countless wars for land and wealth and power. The earth was wracked with plague and shrouded in death for nearly a hundred years. And in the wake of all that grief, one machine was invented that altered mankind ever since -- The printing press.Guttenberg's movable type spread language from the church and the elite to the common peasant in remote villages. Language spawned education and thought and logic. And now we have machines that enable everyman to share his thoughts and love of words.
Of all the things that have been handed down through the previous millennia (three of them, count 'em) the power of words to move our emotions has been the core of our existence. Welcome to . . .
