This was my Sidecar outfit.

I've had the bike and chair for a number of years, but only fitted them together in September 1998.

I originally had the Squire fitted to a GSX1100ET that I had in '94. It was a pig of a thing, and only stayed together for 3000km, after which the chair got parked in the shed. The ET ended up being 'put-down' after an altercation with a bloody great rock that lay in the middle of the road at "Devil's Pinch" on the New England Highway,NSW,(Easter 1995),but that's another story.

After trying unsuccessfully to sell the chair,I decided to fit it to my R100. For several months I read as much as I could find on sidecars. The net's a wonderful place! I finally bit the bullet, and fitted the Squire to the R100.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it all went together. Local steel traders helped out with small offcuts etc. to make the bike's mounts, while a big thanks must go to Ian Souter at 'Premier Sidecars' in Melbourne for the male clevis mounts and copious advice. To strengthen the rear sub-frame(the top rear strut mounts next to the upper shock mount)I made a removeable re-inforcing frame that fits above the battery.

Alignment was a breeze. I set the outfit up with 300mm lead, 20mm toe-in, and 'just noticeable' lean-out when unloaded. It rides like a dream. I love it.

I'm currently running standard(wire spoke)wheels, with Metzeler sidecar tyres front and rear. The chair has a 4.00x8" tyre. Small. As setup, even with the standard 'S' type handlebars, the outfit is a dream to ride. The steering is a touch heavy with a lot of weight in the chair, but it's still acceptable. Once finances allow, I'll fit a leading link, 15" wheels, and new rear shocks - not necessarily in that order!

Update -- 9th August 1999

Almost a year (& 12000km) after fitting the chair, I finally got around to updating the suspension on the bike. Koni rear shocks & Progressive H/D fork springs supplied by Proven Products in Sydney. The outfit is transformed, I like it even better than before. I've added three current photos to show the difference in the way the outfit sits.

Update -- 13th August 2000

Today, with much sadness, the outfit was broken up and the BMW sold...I'll be looking for another bike to haul the little Squire around. Look for an upcoming feature on the new buildup once a suitable tug has been found. WHICH STARTS HERE
