GERMAN VILLAGE LIFE
IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY

A bar

In the mid-1960's my father created a series of thirty-three pen-and-ink drawings which he highlighted with colored pencils. The following pictures are a selection of my father's folk art illustrations. I have added short explanations to add to your enjoyment.

Drawing of Burg Neuhaus

Burg Neuhaus was a small citadel located on the banks of the Waldnaab River across from the town where my parents grew up. The Burg is now a museum.

A drawing of an ancient car

Cars were so seldom seen in the town that the children chased after them. They kept up easily because cars had very little speed in those days.

A drawing of gossiping women

"Now what do you think happened today?"
