"I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts." "For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity." All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again." [Eccl 3: 18-20]
"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten." "Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." [Eccl 9: 5-6]
"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." [Eccl 9: 10]

God himself didn't have a problem with a man divorcing his wife:
"When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house." "And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife." [Deut 24: 1-2]
Jesus however, disagreed with God, and considered it adultery, which is punishable by death:
“It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:” “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.” [Matt 5: 31-32]
“And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” [Matt 19: 9]
“And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.” [Lev 20: 10]
"If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel." [Deut 22: 22]
"If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her." [Deut 25: 5]A man had better not lie about his wife's status on their wedding night; he could face a fine, and lose the chance to ever divorce her:
"If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her," "And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:" "Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:" "And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;" "And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city." "And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;" "And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days." [Deut 22: 13-19]
A woman had better not lie about her past indiscretions prior to her wedding night; she will be put to death:
"But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:" "Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you." [Deut 22 20-22]"If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;" "Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you." [Deut 22: 23-24]
Women need to be cautious when coming to the aid of their husbands. Since God is a man, he takes certain things quite seriously:
"When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:" "Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her."
