Mythology |
Mythology plays an important role in Wiccan and
Pagan worship and beliefs. The myths, to use a generic term, tell stories that enhance our
understanding of the cycles of life and death, birth and rebirth, and the wheel of the
year. Myths are often also moral tales which may point us in the right (or wrong)
direction. Mythology has always spoken deeply to me, even when I was a child and before I considered myself a Witch. The myths tell stories of courage and fear, love and hatred, life and death, struggle and victory. I'm sure that for every circumstance in our lives, there is a myth somewhere to tell the story. Just before I wrote this paragraph, in fact before I started this page, I had decided to give you a couple of links to keep you happy, until I can write some more for you on my feelings about mythology. I want to say that no good Witch is without books by Joseph Campbell and C.J. Jung. (Also, go have a look at the Goddess Shrines - they are little tellings of the myths of the Great Goddess, she of Many Names.) I just delved into Janet and Stewart Farrar's A Witches' Bible and they also recommend Jung (although not Campbell which is a shame), so I must be at least on the right track... I'm sorry I haven't been able to verify my Jung links yet, but they should appear very soon. |
