(Front cover. Impulse and Arrowette are facing Mighty Endowed. All of them are in their uniforms, and Arrowette is .pretty disgusted .by what she sees. Impulse, however, is figuratively drooling buckets while in lust.)
Arrowette: (1) I have never seen such a shameless excuse of a character to exploit women before! This is utterly degrading to women! Don't you agree, Impulse?
Arrowette: (2) Uh, Impulse?
(Page 1, panel 1. A doctor's office. Bonnie Jones, Arrowette's mother, is sitting on an exam table. A female doctor dressed in a lab coat and miniskirt stands opposite her. The doctor is a middle aged brunette woman. Bonnie is dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a white blouse.)
Cap (N1): She practically had to be dragged down here.
Cap (N2): But Arrowette knew her mother needed an annual exam.
Cap (N3): She hadn't had one since she released herself from the mental hospital.
Bonnie: I feel fine, and that's all there is to it.
(Panel 2.)
Doctor: You may feel fine, but my stethoscope tells me that something's wrong. One medical X-ray is not going to kill you, Ms. Jones, but it could save your life.
Bonnie: I won't do it. It's very unnecessary.
(Panel 3. The Doctor exits.)
Doctor: Wait here, please.
Bonnie: Geez, this place is awful! I can't believe my daughter dragged me down here.
(Panel 4. The doctor reenters.)
Doctor: I'm afraid your daughter had to leave. Something about an emergency. I don't see why you refuse to get this x-ray. According to my nurse, it will be covered by your insurance.
Bonnie: Oh, all right! If nothing else, it will stop you from all that whining.
(Page 2, panel 1. The home of Impulse and Max Mercury. Max and Helen are sitting at the table, having dinner.)
Cap (N): Shortly thereafter, in Alabama...
Helen: Just where is that boy? He's always late these days.
Max: I'm sure he's somewhere important. Kids these days have a very full schedule, trying to keep up with being a superhero and going to school.
(Panel 2. Impulse races in, and sits at the table.)
Impulse: HiMaxHelenI'msorryI'mlateIgotquitealottoI'vegotamountainofhomework
saywhat'sfordinner?
Helen: Oh no you don't, young man. You will slow down and have a normal dinner with us.
(Panel 3.)
Impulse: But...
Helen: No buts! Speedster or not, I hardly see you anymore. I just one a nice, sit-down meal for once.
(Panel 4.)
Impulse: O.k....
(Page 3, panel 1. In a suburban setting of row upon row of tract housing, we see Mighty Endowed driving a motorcycle down a street.)
Cap (ME1): They thought they could keep me down.
Cap (ME2):They were wrong.
Cap (ME3): I've been working out a lot, and I can stand on my own now.
Cap (ME4): Watch out, world.
(Panel 2. A Policeman in a cop car comes from behind Mighty Endowed, and turns on his lights.)
Mighty: Aw, man...
(Panel 3. She stops and the Policeman stops behind her.)
Mighty: Rasa Frackin' - I'll bet nothing like this ever happens to the Riddler.
(Panel 4. The policeman, a young Hispanic man, stands next to Mighty Endowed.)
Policeman: Seņorita, do you know why I stopped you?
Mighty: No, not really...
(Panel 5.)
Policeman: I clocked you doing 35 in that school zone. I'd like to see your license and insurance.
(Page 4, panel 1. She reaches into her purse, and pulls out a license and insurance card.)
Cap (ME): He's not worth offing.
(Panel 2. The policeman looks over the card and license.)
Policeman: Well, I'll let you off with a warning, seņorita. Por favor, watch for the signs, bueno?
Mighty: Of course, officer.
(Panel 3. The policeman drives off.)
Cap (ME): Now, let's get going.
(Panel 4. Mighty Endowed drives off.)
Cap (N1): They aren't keeping her down for long.
Cap (N2): Then again, she's her own worst enemy.
(Page 5, panel 1. Go back to Arrowette. She is arriving back at the doctor's office where her mother is standing in the waiting room.)
Cap (N1): Later, Arrowette has arrived back at the doctor's office.
Cap (N2): Bonnie Jones has completed her examination.
Arrowette: Mother.
Bonnie: Nice of you to come back.
(Panel 2. Arrowette approaches her mother.)
Arrowette: (annoyed) Mother! I had to go rescue some people from a hostage situation.
Bonnie: I know, I know. When you're a heroine, you've got to put the public safety first.
(Panel 3.)
Arrowette: Anyway, how did it go?
Bonnie: So far, so good. Nothing bad was detected. I should be good for a long time.
(Panel 4. Bonnie lights a cigarette, and then walks off.)
Bonnie: Let's go catch some Chinese.
Arrowette: Right.
(Page 6, panel 1. Go back to Impulse. He is now sitting at his desk, doing homework.)
Cap (I1): Homework.
Cap (I2): Whoever invented this stuff must have hated children.
Cap (I3): Not to mention my homework has been piling up quite a bit.
(Panel 2. Impulse's Young Justice comm. card goes off.)
SFX: Beep! Beep! Beep!
Impulse: Of all the times...
(Panel 3. Impulse pulls out his comm.)
Impulse: This had better be important. I've got a mountain of homework here!
Secret: (From the comm.): Impulse! Thank goodness I've been able to raise someone! There's some woman trying to destroy New Jersey. You've got to get there at once!
(Panel 4.)
Impulse: (1) And... how is this a bad thing?
Secret: Impulse! You can get there a lot faster than I could. You've got to do it!
Impulse: (2) Suzie, I've got too much homework to do. Even at top speed, it's going to take me all night to do this stuff.
(Panel 5. Secret is nervous.)
Impulse: Arrowette should be free and nearby, try calling her.
Secret: I have. I left her a message but she hasn't responded to it.
(Panel 6. Impulse rolls his eyes.)
Impulse: All right, where is it in New Jersey?
Secret: It's in Camden. Hurry, Impulse!
(Page 7, panel 1. We see Impulse in his uniform.)
Impulse: Maybe I should ask Max to go in my place.
(Panel 2. He goes to see Helen by herself.)
Impulse: Where's Max?
Helen: He had something come up. Said he could handle it by himself.
(Panel 3. Go over to see Mighty Endowed blowing things up with her powers, creating a lot of damage.)
Mighty Endowed: Ha! Run! Flee! I have the power now, and I am the one who will be in control!
(Panel 4. Go over to see Arrowette entering into the picture.)
Arrowette: Another braggart villain... this one doesn't look too tough.
(Panel 5. Impulse enters, and stops in front of Arrowette.)
Impulse: Heyit'sgoodtoseeyouheresowhatdoyouknowaboutwhomwe'refacing?
Arrowette: Slow down, Impulse. I've been told you met her before.
(Page 8, panel 1. Impulse and Arrowette walk along.)
Arrowette: I'm sure if we follow this trail of carnage, we'll find our destroyer.
(Panel 2. A young woman runs by them.)
Woman: Run for your lives! It's some woman who is wrecking everything! She's got my boyfriend!
Impulse: How can you tell?
(Panel 3. The woman turns to them.)
Woman: Ah, some super powered types. Just what we need. Get in there and stop her!
Arrowette: Rest assured we're on the job. We'll get your boyfriend back.
(Panel 4. Mighty Endowed enters, and shoots a blast of energy. Impulse and Arrowette dive to avoid being hit.)
Arrowette: I'd say we found our villain.
(Page 9, panel 1. Mighty Endowed strikes a dramatic pose.)
Mighty: No longer will you keep me down! I am woman, hear me roar! Fall before the wrath of Mighty Endowed!
(Panel 2. Impulse is all drooling and hormones while Arrowette is not amused by this scene.)
Arrowette: You've got to be kidding me.
Impulse: Ooh mama...
(Panel 3. Arrowette rolls her eyes.)
Arrowette (Coldly): Impulse...
Mighty: Hah! Men cannot resist me! Soon, I will have my revenge!
(Panel 4. Arrowette draws an arrow from her quiver. Impulse, however, is still drooling.)
Arrowette: He may be all lost in hormones, but you've still got me to contend with.
Mighty: Give it your best shot, dearie.
(Panel 5. Arrowette strikes Mighty Endowed with a goop arrow right in her chest.)
Arrowette: Well, you asked for it...
SFX: Splut!
(Page 10, panel 1. Mighty Endowed's chest is now covered with goop.)
Mighty: (1) Hey! That's not good!
Mighty: (2) I'll bet this stuff is murder to take out of spandex.
Arrowette: Well, I'm not the one who was using her superpowers for bad things.
(Panel 2. Mighty Endowed tries to activate her power, but instead the goop holds, and Mighty Endowed goes down.)
Mighty: (1)Well, let's see if you're smiling when I show you my powerful -
Mighty: (2) ACK!
(Panel 3. Arrowette turns to Impulse.)
Arrowette: (Sarcastically, 1) Thanks for the help, Impulse.
Arrowette: (2) Are you even listening to me?
Arrowette: (3) BART!
Impulse: Ooh baby... what I wouldn't give for one of those...
(Panel 4. Arrowette grabs Impulse by his ear.)
Arrowette: O.k., conference time!
Impulse (snapping out of it): Ow!
(Panel 5. Arrowette drags Impulse aside.)
Arrowette: I can't believe you! We're sent here to fight some villain, and you get lost in a sea of raging hormones!
Impulse: Ow! C'mon, Cissie!
(Panel 6.)
Arrowette: You can't allow yourself to get distracted on the field, Bart! You just have to ignore your primal urges on the field. If I hadn't been here, you would have been taken down by her.
Impulse: What a way to go, though....
(Page 11, panel 1. Arrowette is frustrated, and it shows.)
Arrowette: ARGH! I give up. You're hopeless!
Impulse: O.k., o.k. I admit I was wrong. But let's turn things around; how would you feel if you saw some handsome hunk of a man who was using his masculine charms to make a fast buck like her?
(Panel 2. Arrowette thinks.)
Arrowette: I certainly wouldn't stop what I was doing and drool constantly like you were.
Impulse: Let me make it up to you. I saw a nice place coming into town we can have dinner at.
(Panel 3. Arrowette puts up her bow.)
Arrowette: Well, all right, but no funny business.
Impulse: Deal.
(Panel 4. Later. Impulse and Arrowette have traded their uniforms for a nice pair of slacks and a shirt on him and a nice blouse and loose, short skirt on her. We see them walking out of a nice restaurant.)
Cap (N): About 3 hours later, fences have been mended, and things patched up. Impulse now wants to take Arrowette for a slow walk.
Impulse: Ah, this is the life, isn't it? Great times, great love...
(Page 12, panel 1. They are in a park, walking arm in arm.)
Arrowette: Yea, things are great right now.
(Panel 2. They stop, and embrace.)
Impulse: And do you know what would really top this evening off?
Arrowette (smiles): Yea.
(Panel 3. They kiss as a beeper goes off.)
SFX: Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
(Panel 4. They part as Arrowette pulls out her communicator.)
Impulse: Of all the rasa frackin' luck -
Arrowette: I'm sure it's nothing big, Bart....
(Panel 5. She turns on her communicator, showing a picture of Secret and her mother.)
Secret: Arrowette, your mother needs to talk to you, she said it was urgent.
Arrowette: This had better be good, Mom.
Bonnie: It is, Cissie. I'm afraid I may not have much time left.
(Panel 6. Arrowette turns white as a sheet, and her eyes go wide as a look of sheer terror is painted on her face.)
Arrowette: LUNG CANCER!?
Impulse: Aw, man...
(Page 13, panel 1. Impulse picks up Arrowette.)
Impulse: I'll have you next to your mother in no time flat.
Arrowette: We don't know how bad it is yet.
(Panel 2. Impulse races off.)
Impulse: IwantyoutoknowI'mhereforyouinyourhourofneedandallyourfriends
aresupportiveofyouaswell.
Arrowette: Whoa!
(Panel 3. Later, Impulse arrives at the Jones home.)
Cap (N): About 2 hours later...
Impulse: Hereweareallsafeandsound!
(Panel 4. Arrowette opens up the door, and is greeted by her mother.)
Arrowette: Mom! I came as soon as I could.
Bonnie: Thank you....
(Panel 5. Impulse turns around.)
Impulse: I'd best be going - I know you want to talk alone here.
(Panel 6. Impulse exits.)
Bonnie: Cissie, I know we haven't seen eye to eye on a lot of things....
Arrowette: I have warned you about the effects of smoking too much, mother. I don't want to rub your nose into that - I just want you to get better.
(Page 14, panel 1. Bonnie and Arrowette sit.)
Bonnie: They're doing some tests tomorrow. It's not a big tumor.
Arrowette: But it's there - and that's the big thing.
(Panel 2. Arrowette puts an arm around her mother.)
Arrowette: We may not have had the best mother-daughter relationship in the world, but you've done the best you could, and that's what is important. Your job isn't done yet, and I don't want to loose you, Mom.
Bonnie: I know it's your nature to worry, but you shouldn't. I just know everything will be all right.
(Panel 3. The two of them hug.)
Cap (N1): It's been a very rocky relationship.
Cap (N2): But they're always there for each other.
(Panel 4. Go back to Impulse. He has arrived home, and approaches Helen and Max. They are watching the news.)
Impulse: I need your help.
Max: This is something new.
(Page 15, panel 1. Impulse sits down.)
Impulse: O.k., Arrowette's mom discovered she has cancer, and I need to get the right thing for her to make her feel better.
Helen: Cancer!?
(Panel 2.)
Max (deadpan): Doesn't surprise me - the way she chain smoked, it was a wonder she didn't get it sooner.
Impulse: But I need to know - what should I do? What can I do?
(Panel 3. Focus on Helen's face.)
Helen: Hope.
(Panel 4. Bart is confused.)
Impulse: Hope? That's it?
Helen: I'm sure everything will be all right, Bart. You'd best get off to bed, you've got school tomorrow.
(Page 16, panel 1. We see Bonnie Jones and Arrowette in nice dresses entering the hospital together.)
Cap (N): The next day, Bonnie Jones checks herself into the hospital for some tests on her cancer....
Bonnie: I'm sure that it's nothing big. I'll just have one or two treatments and then go home.
Arrowette: Good luck, mom.
(Panel 2. They check in at the front desk, and meet a harried clerk at the desk.)
Bonnie: I'm here to have some cancer tests performed.
Clerk: That would be the cancer ward, third floor, follow the signs. Be sure to fill out these forms on the way.
(Panel 3. The Clerk gives Bonnie quite a number of forms, making a stack the size of a stand alone computer tower.)
Arrowette: You've got to be kidding me.
Bonnie (1): I'm sure we can easily do this...
Bonnie (2): Uh, do you have a pen? I lost mine...
(Panel 4. Arrowette ends up carrying the bulk of the forms as Bonnie holds a couple of them while filing them out. Bonnie has a pen in her hand now.)
Arrowette: Why are there so many forms?
Bonnie: Most of them are legal waivers - apparently, lawsuit paranoia has hit this place hard.
(Panel 5. They find the elevators, and go up to them. A large sign in red between the elevators reads: "Management assumes no responsibility for any occurrences that happen on the elevators.")
Bonnie: Just relax, Cissie. I'm going in for a few tests, not to be sentenced to death.
Arrowette (1): That's easy for you to say. You're not - ugh- carrying all these forms.
Arrowette (2): I hope I don't get a hernia from this.
(Panel 6. Bonnie switches out some of the forms, and pushes the button to summon the elevator.)
Bonnie: I'm sure this was caught early enough to control it easily.
(Page 17, panel 1. The door opens, and then Arrowette and Bonnie enter the elevator.)
Arrowette: I gotta set this down.
(Panel 2. She sets the forms on the floor of the elevator. Bonnie continues to fill out the forms.)
SFX: Whump!
Bonnie: Welcome to the real world, Cissie.
(Panel 3. Arrowette nurses her back as Bonnie pushes the button.)
Arrowette (1): Geez, that was heavy.
Arrowette (2): That's even heavier than the school backpack I have to carry.
Bonnie: A little exercise never hurt anyone.
(Panel 4.)
Arrowette: I wish I had your confidence. I just can't help fearing the worst.
Bonnie: Cissie, one thing I've learned over the years...
(Panel 5.)
Bonnie: Is to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. Worrying about this situation isn't going to lessen its impact.
(Page 18, panel 1. The elevator door opens, and then Arrowette and Bonnie exit, now carrying the forms again.)
Arrowette: Lawsuit... paranoia... has gone too... far now.
Bonnie: I think hospitals do this to keep people from wanting to come here unnecessarily.
(Panel 2. They enter a waiting room, with several other people here who are encumbered by the same amount of paperwork.)
Bonnie: Good thing we arrived several hours early - it's gonna take awhile for all this paperwork.
Arrowette: Let's hope nothing goes bad.
(Panel 3. Go back to Impulse. He is at Young Justice headquarters with a large (4'x2') card. He also has a marker and signs his name.)
Secret: Say, is that the get well card for Arrowette's mother?
Impulse: Yea, come on and sign it.
(Panel 4. Secret takes the marker, and thinks.)
Secret: You sure? She and I barely said a word or two when we met...
Impulse: I'm sure. I'm signing it, and she's not too fond of me.
(Panel 5. Secret signs the card.)
Secret: I hope she likes it.
Impulse: So do I.
(Page 19, panel 1. Go back to Arrowette. We see her and her mother finishing up the paperwork that was given to them before.)
Cap (N): Several hours later, and a severe case of writer's cramp on the part of Bonnie and Cissie Jones...
Bonnie: I think we finished them all.
Arrowette: Thank goodness. I think my hand is going to fall off.
(Panel 2. A nurse enters the room.)
Nurse: Next up is Ms. Bonnie Jones.
Bonnie: Ah, that would be me.
(Panel 3. Bonnie goes out as Arrowette continues to sit.)
Arrowette: Good luck, Mom...
(Panel 4. Arrowette pulls out some books.)
Cap (A1): I don't know how long this will take.
Cap (A2): At least Young Justice is being understanding.
Cap (A3): I'll catch up on some homework while I wait.
(Page 20, panel 1. Suddenly Mighty Endowed enters, anger all over her face.)
Mighty Endowed: Where is that arrow-wielding bimbo!?
Arrowette: Wonderful.
(Panel 2. Mighty Endowed unleashes her power as Arrowette dives for her gym bag.)
Arrowette: Geez, can't I have at least one minute of boredom?
Mighty Endowed: I owe you big time for stopping me!
(Panel 3. Arrowette manages to pull her bow and arrows out of the gym bag.)
Arrowette: It's really frustrating when I have to hunting down Young Justice's old Rogue's gallery.
(Panel 4. Arrowette manages to hit Mighty Endowed in the head with an arrow. A powder explodes into Mighty Endowed's face.)
SFX: POOF!
Mighty Endowed: Hah! You really think you can stop me with a powder!?
(Panel 5. Arrowette smiles slightly.)
Arrowette: Ordinary powder, no. Sleep powder, yes.
(Panel 6. Mighty Endowed yawns.)
Mighty Endowed: Hey... * Yawn* no fair....
Arrowette: You were the one who attacked me.
(Page 21, panel 1. Mighty Endowed curls up, and goes to sleep.)
Arrowette: (1) I hope you're beginning to notice a pattern here....
Arrowette: (2) It sure would make my life easier if you did.
(Panel 2. Enter Bonnie Jones, dressed normally.)
Bonnie: (1) Well, they gave me a bit of chemotherapy and said I had to come back next week -
Bonnie: (2) Now what?
(Panel 3. Arrowette ties up Mighty Endowed, who is face down on the ground.)
Arrowette: Meet a rather silly excuse for a villain, her name is Mighty Endowed.
(Panel 4. Enter several orderlies, dressed in white coats.)
Orderly: We got a report of a disturbance here.
Arrowette: Here's your disturbance - some nutcase named Mighty Endowed.
(Panel 5. The orderlies rush toward Mighty Endowed.)
Orderlies: (all at once) I'll restrain her!
Arrowette: (rolls her eyes) Not again.
(Panel 6. The orderlies struggle with each other.)
Orderly: It's my turn!
Other Orderly: No way! It's my turn!
Arrowette: Are men always like this?
(Page 22, panel 1. Bonnie grabs Mighty Endowed as the orderlies continue to argue.)
Bonnie: Actually, they're usually worse. Come on, let's get her to the police, Arrowette.
Arrowette: You bet.
(Panel 2. Later, Arrowette and Bonnie Jones are outside of a police station.)
Cap (N): And after a trip to the police station...
Arrowette: Well, so what happened at the hospital?
Bonnie: They took a few tests, did some research. I've taken the initial chemotherapy treatment, and it was really bad having a big needle stuck into my lung... I've got to go back next week for the same thing. They said the tumor was benign and small. Fortunately, it was caught early.
(Panel 3.)
Arrowette: So where does this leave you?
Bonnie: They've also prescribed the patch to get me off cigarettes. I hope it works... I tried quitting before, and failed.
(Panel 4. Arrowette puts an arm around her mother.)
Arrowette: I still love you, mother, and I'll help in any way I can.
