We start the story with a view of a facility and some scientists testing a vibroseek missile on a hover tank. During the test, the missile goes off course and starts following something faster. This faster object leads the missile on a wild goose chase ending it on the hover tank. The scientists all wonder what could had happen to the missile, but are all stunned to see a kid, holding one of their arms, looking at the watch, and then speeding away; to his first day of school.

At school we meet our hero, his name, Bart Allen. After some miscommunication with the teacher the class is force to write their autobiography. Bart Allen, grandson of the great Barry Allen and fellow speedster; hailing from the 30th Century he was born with speed powers. Unfortunately his power was out of control and he began ageing at super speed. To help his brain keep up with his body Earthgov Scientists plug-in Bart into a virtual reality world. Living there indicated that he created the rules and if he ever made a mistake he just resets the world like nothing had ever happen, which means that Bart never learned he meaning of consequences.

All that change when he got unplugged, by his grandmother. Learning the truth that Earthgov never intended of curing Bart but just studying him and letting him die of old age, Iris Allen (grandmother), rescued her grandson and fled back to the 20th Century where she would seek the help of Wally West (current Flash, and Bart’s cousin). After “ curing” Bart of his hypermetabolism he got sent to live with Max Mercury (the Zen Master of Speed) in Manchester, Alabama where Bart will learn how to control his speed among other things.

After writing his story, it gets axe by Max and then explains to him that his identity must remain a secret; at the same time Bart tells Max where he was and about the speed seeking missile. They come to the conclusion that it is meant to destroy a hovertank that will be unveil on Saturday. Without hesitation Bart speeds away (as Impulse) to find out more. In the meantime the group that was testing the missile are on to Impulse and prepare to take him out. As Impulse arrives he is detected and almost caught, but is able to escape. Trying to flee from his captor, Impulse enters a pitch dark room surrounded by soldiers.
