Remembering
Goodbye
By Angel MacAlister
I remember Goodbye
My soul will not let me forget
We stood in the field where
We played as children
Endless games
Of hide-go-seek and tag and laughter
So much laughter, so much love
Now silence
The silence hovers between us
Like an ominous cloud
Dark, waiting
The wind blew your dress until
The hem wrapped itself around
My legs as if to
Hug me only because it knew
You would not
Our gazes could not meet
Instead they traveled
Over each other as if
Trying to imprint
Upon our brains the
Memory of what
Love once was
When it existed
As the first tear began its
Silent journey down the
Porcelain skin of your cheek
I reached for your hand but
In an instant
You were gone
Leaving only a million
Memories and the scent of
Roses on the wind
It was then my heart broke
