The Poetry of Julia Marl W

Previous Poets of the Month

At the Moment

Everything in my being tells me this is wrong,
That I should go
Now,
Before it's too late.
I sit up,
Straighten my clothes,
Move away.
"Why ?"
I avoid your eyes,
I can't answer,
I don't know.
The battle begins
Between the head,
The heart,
and the loins.
How can I tell you,
The truth,
About him,
I don't even know.
I only know this is wrong.
But.......
"Why ?"
You finally catch my eyes,
I am locked.
I feel it again,
The hunger,
Growing.
The battle heightens.
You touch me,
My face,
My neck,
I look in your eyes.
I see your want,
Your caring,
Your love.
This is wrong,
I think,
I begin to pull away.
You run your hands along my back.
Softly caress my breast.
I look in your eyes again,
I am lost,
The battle is over,
The hunger overtakes me,
I can taste my desire.
I collapse in your arms.
There is no turning back.
I know this is wrong,
At the moment,
I don't care.

THE VOYAGE

Open your eyes
Dear Boy,
And see the light.
I am caught in a sea of turmoil
Anchored to a leaking ship
And strangely so....
It's where I want to be.
So much time spent bailing,
So much effort,
Charting and recharting the coarse,
Fending off the sharks,
And justifying my love of this vessel
To those who begged of me to let it sink.
Oh, what a resting place it could have
Quiet and peaceful
On the bottom of the sea.
But alas,
Dear Boy,
It is not meant to be.
My love of this vessel
Is never changing,
Never yielding,
and never ending.
I will follow it to the bottom of the sea
Or carry it,
On my back,
Up the highest mountain.
It is my choice,
It is my destiny,
No questions.
I have chained myself here,
Willingly,
And will ride the wind.
Vessels may come,
Pass by,
Or linger awhile.
I may actually step aboard
For a bit.
Enjoy the calmness,
Their comfort,
And luxury.
But never forget....
Soon the wind calls
And the chain pulls
And I am off.
Off to my old, leaking vessel
With compass,
Chart,
and bail in hand,
Fending off the sharks,
To ride the hurricane,
And I am happy.
