The Poetry of Jennifer Murray

Previous Poets of the Month

Eternity
by: Jennifer Murray

my pen betrays me now
leaving nothing on the paper
but dried tear stains and coffee rings
dealt the same bad hand
the one we were dealt last time
eyes half closed and hands held open
we wait for whatever comes
be it pain or relief
we dare not see what has become
of the tortured thoughts we once shared
our lives are now filled with uncertainty
but our hearts will remain the same
until eternity

From Within
by: Jennifer Murray

The bitter winds
are passing through me
as if I were an open window
the shutters bang
and a storm is brewing
inside me
the dust takes form
and moves forward
a hand moves out
as if to strike
but the wind blows strong
and it moves away

a summer breeze
or raging storm
I can't tell any more
all is quiet
no noise at all
to break the silence
I cry out
I need noise
any noise
something to tell me
I'm still alive
the wind picks up
as if to comfort me
it starts to blow
faster and harder
I want it to stop now
but it won't
it just keeps blowing
then I shut the window
and take a step back
now there is bitter silence
once again

MERCY
by: Jennifer Murray

My mind runs over
the situations flow
the questions unanswered
the people I've known

The lives that I've touched
and have touched my soul
the things I have seen, friend
have taken their toll

The lessons I've learned
and taught in return
gentle as a kiss
or a fiery burn

the flowers and sunshine
the clouds and the rain
through the good and the bad
the triumph and pain

I now stand before you
for all to see
what will you do, friend
with my mercy plea?
