The Roman Catholic Church Asserts:
That penance, by which one atones for their sins, is a worship of God and not a tradition of men.
Catholic Church "If anyone says that the satisfactions by which penitents atone for their sins through Christ are not a worship of God but traditions of men, which obscure the doctrine of grace and the true worship of God and the beneficence itself of the death of Christ, let him be anathema."  Reference 25
Scriptures But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. ~Romans 5:8-11

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. ~Mark 1:15

Comments "Penance" is a tradition of men. The word or action is not found in scriptures.

Repentance from sin is necessary for salvation and it accompanies faith. This is a Godly sorrow for sin. Do not get this confused with penance.  Repentance deals with the condition of the heart, not a compensatory deed that is performed.
