Scriptures | Let God be true, but every man a liar.
-- Romans 3:4
...He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. ...Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, ...for I have not found thy works perfect before God. ...I will spue thee out of my mouth. ...Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. -- Revelation 2 |
Comments | As the Lord speaks to the churches in the book of Revelations, He portrays His churches to be far from infallible, and quite defective and He admonishes them for their sins and commands them to repent. The description of God's church from scriptures is not a perfect organization that can not err. The Lord offers incredible promises to churches that overcome. But overcoming is a difficult task, it is a test. All true churches will go through trials and attacks from the enemy and will either overcome or succomb. What type of a church would be exempt from the enemy's efforts to destroy the truth of God? Satan hates Christianity and will attack the church until the day that Jesus returns. Only a false church would be brash enough to claim that they could not fail or could not become defective. It was the church of the Laodiceans that had grandeous ideas that they were rich and had need of nothing. They were strongly counseled by the Lord and given a bitter rebuke that the Lord could not even stand to taste them. That he would spit them out of his mouth! |
