Catholic Church | "She [The Catholic Church] has, rather insisted unequivocally that she is the custodian of the Bible and its interpreter, since she wrote the New Testament and accepted and defined the limits of the Old. She has never pretended that it was within the province of every Christian, whatever his qualifications, to interpret the Bible for himself, and therefore she has never held that the uncontrolled circulation of the Bible under every circumstance must of necessity be a good thing; therefore she has ever reserved to herself a jurisdiction over Scripture and a determination of its use." Scriptures | The Lord gave the word: great was the
company of those that published it. ~Psalm 68:11 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. ~John 5:39 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. ~Acts 17:11 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ~II Timothy 2:15 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. ~John 16:13 |
Comments | The Catholic Church does not have custodial power over the Bible; is not it's interpereter; did not write the New Testament; and has no jurisdiction reserved. This authority has not been given to her. It is within the province of every "Spirit led" Christian, whatever his qualifications, to interpret the Bible for himself. The Bereans were commended by the apostle for searching the scriptures daily to prove whether or not the things that they heard were true! If this is where they found truth, then we too may find it there! Spirit led Christians have the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth. |
