Introduction

Coordinate Calculator can calculate Lat/Lon coordinates to/from coordinates in different projection, local datums (264 datums) and on different spheroids(33 spheroids).
It uses coordinate system definition, recommended by Defence Mapping Agency(DMA) Technical Report 8350.2. It differs from previous version with new copy protection system - you can use all functions and expanded list of spheroids during evaluation period (reduced set of spheroids in previous version). Coordinate Calculator is a 32-bit application and can run under Windows 95/98/NT/2K/XP.

The Coordinate Calculator Interface
Main Window

Coordinate Calculator has a simple interface which allows you to navigate the program features using familiar controls.

CCalc main window

Title Bar: Display program name - Coordinate Calculator. You can access the System menu by either left-clicking on the small icon at top left, or right-clicking anywhere on the bar.
Menu Bar: Contains three drop-down menus:
File - contains Open, Exit options.
Open - allows you to calculate list of points from file in Ground Control Point(GCP) format (see topic Format of GCP file).
Options - contains Output file, Height and allows you to set parameters - output file name and altitude calculation method
1.Absolute - altitude from 0-level of input spheroid.
2.Relative - altitude from 0-level of output spheroid.
Coordinates of calculated points writes into output file only for list of points from GCP file.
Help - gives you quick access to the Help Index, About box.
Input Area: Enter input coordinate in 3 columns of this area
Output Area: Display result of calculations.
Coordinate System Area: Displays input and output coordinate system and allows to change this coordinate systems.
Push buttons: You can enter input coordinates by clicking this buttons.
Status bar: Displays basic information about the program.

Coordinate system

You must define spheroid, datum and projection to set coordinate system.
Press Change button on Coordinate System Area, for example, for setting input coordinate system.
In opened window there are tabbed notebook opened on page Spheroid and Datum. Choose spheroid in box Spheroid. Then select datum for this spheroid in datum list.

ccalc spheroid window

Select page Projection. Select projection type from list in box Projection Type. Choose your projection from list.

ccalc projection window - 7441 Bytes

Choosing 4 elements of coordinate system (spheroid, datum, projection type, projection) you can click OK button and return to main program window.

Installation

Software and hardware requirements

The software is developed as a 32-bit application for Windows 95/98/NT/2K/XP (not DOS/Windows 3.1) on x86 platform.

Minimal hardware requirements are the following:

Installation and start of Coordinate Calculator

1. To install Coordinate Calculator start SETUP.EXE. For installation it is necessary to specify destination directory on your hard disk where the program is to be installed. By default Coordinate Calculator will be installed in the directory Program Files\CCalc.
2. Note. It is necessary to select "." (dot) as decimal separator in Settings->Control Panel->Regional Settings.
3. To start the program select Start->Programs->Coordinate Calculator.

Registration

You can use Coordinate Calculator during evaluation period with all function and with full list of spheroids.
If you want to register this program then you ought to do next steps:
1. Send me ( vinek@yahoo.com ) Machine ID and Username (Machine ID you can take from window Register,
Username think up yourself). You can save this information to text file and attach it to e-mail
or press button Send - information will be sent by your default mailer.
2. Receive Serial number and Username from me.
3. Enter Serial number and Username into appropriate fields in window Register and press Register button

Short Introduction

As well known, the Earth is a sphere, but more exact it can be represented by spheroid. There are many spheroids(see topic Spheroid ListIDH_SPHEROID) used in the world. Standard Molodensky Datum Transformation Formulas is used for referencing different local datums. There are about 200 local datums(see topic Datums List) in DMA Technical Report 8350.2. This data is the base for calculations. More over, there are different projections for describing the relationship between plane and spheriod coordinates. Most usefull projections(see topic Projections List) used in Coordinate Calculator.

Format of files

Format of GCP file

Ground Control Points (GCP) file is created by any text editor. The file is a text file each line of which contains information about one control point in the following format:
Name On/Off CellX CellY GeoX...GeoY GeoZ

where:
"Name" is point's name;
"On/Off" specifies whether a point is included to the process of orientation ("On") or not ("Off");
"CellX", "CellY" are file pixel coordinates of a point;
"GeoX", "GeoY" are accordingly Easting and Northing coordinates of a point in meters in selected cartographic projection;
"GeoZ" is height of a point in meters.

Example: T25_45 Yes 120 4564 3824160 6771510 0
