Next door neighbors Carefree/Cave Creek may share the same piece of the beautiful Sonoran Desert, but each has its own personality.

Separated by towering Black Mountain, these two communities have a combined population of less than 6,000. Nevertheless, Carefree/Cave Creek has been a destination spot for hot Valley travelers and cold winter "Snowbirds" for decades. Situated 20 miles north of Phoenix at an average elevation of 2,500 feet, the temperature in the summer can be as much as 10-15 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The serene Saguaro studded landscape has long been a favorite of golfers, hikers, bikers, horse lovers and jeep riders.

Cave Creek is the older of the two Towns having gotten its start in the 1870's. A true frontier town, Cave Creek retains much of the flavor and attitude of the Old West. Many excellent restaurants and saloons line both sides of Cave Creek Road.

Carefree is much younger. Established in the late 1950's as one of the first "Master-Planned Communities", Carefree gained national recognition when the world-famous Boulders Resort was opened. Residents have an open, even whimsical approach to life which is evident in the many retail shops, restaurants and many other businesses which occupy Easy Street of Ho and Hum Road. Even the banks are on Wampum Way!
