Most Census records of Ireland are available on CD ROM. But these will only be words and dates. Here at Emerald Ancestry, we can obtain copies of the originals!! See your ancestors handwriting as they filled in each column in the census forms.

Emerald Ancestry will post to your home address, full sized copies (approx. A3) of the original census forms. These forms will have the following information on them.
All the people in that particular household. Starting with the head of household it will state their age, their literacy, their occupations, and the name of the County from which the originate from. We will also post any other heads of household in the same street who have the same surname as your own relative. These other heads might be related to your own ancestors.
The census available are as follows. All Ireland.
1821: This census took place on May 28th 1821. Most of the original returns were destroyed in the fire of 1922. Only a few parts of the following counties survive, Counties Cavan, Fermanagh, Galway, Meath and Offaly (King's County).
1831: Only a small part of Co. Derry survives after 1922.
1841: Only the parish of Killieshandra in Co. Cavan survives after the 1922 fire. But transcripts of this census still survive as they were used in the early 1900's when old age pensions were introduced. The transcripts being the proof of age for anyone applying for the pension.
1851: Only a few parishes in Country Antrim survive. But like the 1841 census the transcripts for this census were used as proof of age when anyone applied for the old age pension at the beginning of the 20th century.
1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 were completely destroyed by order of the British Government during the 1st World War.
1901: The first of the census in which the whole country of Ireland still survives. Census gives the names of all in that household, their age, sex, occupation, their literacy, where they are originally from and what languages the can speak (Irish or English).
1911: All this census still survives and gives how long the wife and head of household were married and also how many children the wife has birthed and how many were still living at the time of the census.
