What would a juke joint be without your favorite beverage? Here at Jazz-L, our subscribers decided that the martini was our drink of choice when kicked back and groovin' to tunes. Reminiscent of the juke joints of yore, it conjure up images of small, smoky clubs...electric and intimate.
List-member extraordinaire, Don Brunel, proprietor of The Don's Den, in Macon, Georgia, conducted a week long taste-test at his club to determine the winner. Our panel of judges were the ever loyal and iron-stomached regulars of Don's club, who donated their bodies for jazz research, in the name of Pops, Dizzy, and Grapelli....amen. Can I get a witness?!
And lest we not forget, the events were overseen by one of our Juke Joint mascots, Bubba The Jazz Dog, who is owned by Don. Bubba kept us well-informed as to the condition of our judges and how the results were progressing.
The two winning drink recipes were submitted by former list-owner
Kay Cavin and jazz violinist Shéri Margrave.
In recognition of this notorious event, we do hereby bestow
The Juke Joint Two-Olive Award , along with two cases of Maalox, to Don and his patrons for service above and beyond the call of jazz duty and flatted fifths.
