YAOUNDE, Cameroon-African countries will find the Roman Catholic Church a willing partner in development efforts--as long as they guarantee human rights, Pope John Paul said yesterday.
The 65-year-old pontiff, on the third day of a 12-day African pilgrimage, praised Cameroon
as "an island of peace" as he was greeted by an estimated 10,000 people on arrival at Yaounde
airport from Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

If Our Maker gave us life--each and 'all of us'--Our Maker would not have provided us

ROME-Pope John Paul II issued a peace message for 1987 on Thursday in which he begged terrorists to give up violence and denounced developmental programs that he said deny poor nations their rightful freedoms.
In his message for the Roman Catholic Church's World Day of Peace he said, "Dare I hope to be heard by those who practice violence and terrorism?"
He pleaded with terrorists to halt "violent pursuit of your goals, even if the goals themselves are just."
"I beg you to turn away from killing and harming the innocent," he continued.

(WHICH PRODUCED THE 'CAMP DAVID ACCORDS'), WHICH I THEN BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION
OF THE VATICAN. THIS PROCESS INCLUDED A NUMBER OF STEPS AND SPANNED A NUMBER OF WEEKS
OF ACTUAL WORK AT THAT TIME. BY NO DESIGN OF MINE OR THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
OFFICIALS INVOLVED, IT COINCIDED WITH THAT TRAGIC PERIOD OF TIME WHEN, IN THE SPACE
OF ABOUT A MONTH-AND-A-HALF, THERE WAS A SUCCESSION OF THREE POPES. THAT FURTHER
EXTENDED THE PROCESS BECAUSE I HAD TO GET BACK TO TORONTO AT THE TIME, TO REAPPLY FOR
FURTHER WORK WITH CANADA'S HEALTH & WELFARE CANADA MINISTRY--SOMETHING WE DETERMINED
HAD TO BE DONE BY ME IN PERSON.
SO STATEMENTS WERE SENT TO THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH OFFICIALS INVOLVED--INCLUDING
ONE TO THE VATICAN--ASKING THEM IF WHAT I'D EXPRESSED TO THEM TO THAT POINT COULD BE
REGARDED AS REPRESENTATIVE ON A MUTUAL BASIS OF OUR COMMON "CHRISTIAN CONCERN" SHOULD
CIRCUMSTANCES ARISE WHEREIN EVIDENCE OF SUCH MIGHT BE NECESSARY IMMEDIATELY. I
PROMISED THEM I WOULD SEND THEM SUMMARY STATEMENTS IN FUTURE OUTLINING TO THEM WHAT
DEVELOPED BEYOND WHAT WAS EXPLAINED AND PROMISED TO THEM IN THE 1977-78 DOCUMENTATION.
I BELIEVE I ALSO TOLD THEM THAT THIS WOULD BE EXPLAINED TO JUDAIC AND MOSLEM AUTHORITIES
ALSO INVOLVED THEN IN THE WORK.
