Make it happen, Show that you care
Who cares? Who wants to know
Of a war that was fought and won so long
ago?
"It's nothing to do with us", they say
"Why do they go on so, even today?"
This is the attitude that makes the veterans
fight a different war
A battle that must be won
For the sake of the servicemen and women
who died
And the 'Lucky' ones who survived.
The ones whose eyesight has gone forever
The limbless in pain who struggle on day
by day
The ones whose internal injuries never
show
And the ones whose hearing will never return
These are the men and women to whom you
owe so much
The ones to whom you are so out of touch,
because
The trauma of war still lives on
In the lives of those left to carry on
Now is the time for government and council
to show they care
And to say "It has something to do with
us
You were right to create all this fuss
We didn't care and didn't want to know
Of a war that was fought and won so long
ago
But we will make it up to you
Will you forgive us? We hope that you do"
