Democratic News: 2007-2008 COUNTY DEMOCRATS SUPPORT LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES Jan. 2, 2008 - When the Rensselaer County Democratic Committee held its Annual Swearing In Ceremony on New Year's Day, local food pantries had a reason to celebrate, too, said County Chairman Thomas W. Wade. According to Wade, each guest invited to the Swearing In Ceremony was asked to bring a non-perishable food item which was then delivered to CONSERNS-U by Rensselaer County Legislature Minority Leader Ginny O'Brien. The custom of supporting food pantries at County Democratic events is a tradition begun by the Democratic Minority of the Rensselaer County Legislature at the Swearing In Ceremony two years ago. According to Legislative Minority Leader Ginny O'Brien, who organizes many such drives in other organizations she is involved in, "We all have been blessed with so much and this is a small way we can give back. Collectively our contributions make a big difference to local food pantries." Legislative Democrats recently spearheaded a food drive among county offices in recognition of World Hunger Month. COUNTY YOUNG DEMS EVENT SUCCESSFUL A newly reorganized and invigorated Rensselaer County Young Democratic Committee held a successful friend and fundraiser at the South End Tavern in Troy recently. The Rensselaer County Young Democratic Committee holds its meetings on the first Wednesday of every month at Democratic Headquarters on 5 Broadway in Troy at 7 pm.
