PARTIZAN-AEK UNO A UNO

[partita per la pace a Belgrado il 7 aprile]

Belgrade, April 7 (Tanjug) -
Partizan of Belgrade and AEK of Athens played 1-1 (1-1) in a friendly international war-time match in Belgrade on Wednesday.
Players of both teams entered the field carrying a banner saying "NATO stop the war, stop the bombing," expressing their opposition to the bombing of a sovereign and independent state by NATO aggressors.
The stadium observed a minute's silence for the victims of the NATO aggression in the past two weeks in Yugoslavia. This was followed by the playing of the national anthems of Greece and Yugoslavia.
During the intermission, the players planted a tree of friendship in a special utensil which will be a monument to this historic match played in war time.
The match was in fact interrupted with the spontaneous entry of spectators into the field in the 56th minute, manifesting the unity of the two teams and the two peoples.
"The two teams played in true European fashion. This was another demonstration of the support of Greek people to Serbs, who are suffering aggressor attacks of NATO forces. This is proof that the Greek and Yugoslav peoples are connected with an unbreakable friendship which will certainly continue for a long time," Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Marjanovic said.
Greek Ambassador to Yugoslavia Panayotis Vlassopoulos said this was just a symbolic action to deepen this friendship, and a sign of disagreement with the NATO aggressor attacks on Yugoslavia.
"Greeks have once again demonstrated that they are great friends of the Serbian people. This is proof that the two healthy nations are bound with an unbreakable bond, and I hope that reason will prevail on this occasion as well," Yugoslav Sport Minister Velizar Djeric said.
