Canada Customs wishes to confisate YOUR legal property

"That which is not forbidden is permitted"

That has historically been the relationship between the people and the government. People are free to do whatever they wish as long as an any particular activity is not declared to be against the law.

We have seen an extensive list of weapons that are banned from entry into Canada. We would assume that the requirement to declare ALL weapons is to ensure that no fordidden weapons enter the country.

"No problem", you think to yourself, "my (as example) 30 inch broadsword is definately NOT on the prohibited weapons list, I'll just declare it and be on my way"

It would seem to be a logical assumption that any weapon not on the prohibited list would be permitted entry. That may be true in the real world, but in the world populated by petty dictators wearing CCRA uniforms, nothing could be further from the truth.

Having declared any weapons you have (as required by regulations) you may be put into the position of having to convince your own personal Hitler why you should be allowed to retain your legally owned property.

If you can provide a plausable reason for owning the item that does not involve harming or threatening to harm a human being, the CCRA agent may graciously allow you to retain your legally owned property.

The point is, you shouldn't have to provide ANY explanation at all, if you are legally entitled to own the item, that should be the end of the story.

However, that is often NOT the way it will play out. Your personal CCRA agent may demand a darn good reason why you should be allowed to retain posession of your legally owned property.

After providing some made up story as to why you should be allowed to retain posession of your legally owned weapon, there is always the chance that the agent will still deny your explanation and ban the item. Never mind that you have a legal right to posess the item, the agent will insist that you take it back to the states, or surrender it.

You may have even originally purchased the item in Canada, it won't matter, the CCRA agent might arbitrarily decide your legally owned weapon is a threat to the peace and security of Canada and demand you leave it behind.

Never abandon your property, ALWAYS INSIST the item be confiscated

What part of because
I said so don't you understand?
