Intros are a very important part of the Extemp speech as they grab the critics attention and pull them into the topic. They can also be rather time consuming during prep, and so canned intros can be essential to a speech. I have found that having canned intros prepared can save about 5 to 10 minutes of prep time. I prefer to create canned intros based on historical facts dealing with the area examined by the question. However, I will accept many different types of intros as long as thye are creative, and well structured.
I am hopefully going to make this a very complete intro database, and any intros that I get or create will be posted below by topic, and if you want one of them, then just send me an e-mail with the words "intro request", and then tell me what intro you want in the body of the mail. If you would like to donate an intro to the database, then send me an e-mail with "intro donation" as the subject, and then write the intro into the body of the mail. Any intros that you can donate would be greatly appreciated by myself and other extempers.
