THE COMMITTEE, POLITICAL ASSASSINATION IN NORTHERN IRELAND
by Sean McPhilemy
The author is journalist and television producer, born in the north of Ireland. There is no denying the central thesis of much of McPhilemy's book -- there have been 36 unsolved murders involving Loyalist death squads mainly in the mid-Ulster area from May, 1991 until 1996. Philemny names those who committed many of those murders and gives very convincing evidence to back up his claims. McPhilemy's company, Box Productions, produced a documentary on the RUC/Loyalist connection allegations in October, 1991 for the Channel 4 documentary series Dispatches, a British 60 Minutes. Because of stringent libel laws in Britain that do not apply in America, much of the vital information McPhilemy believes he uncovered is now published in the American book for the first time ever. The documentary proved a sensation when it aired. It resulted in several libel suits against the program and a full blown RUC offensive to discredit its central findings. In a bizarre twist, another key witness who the RUC claimed also recanted actually did not, according to McPhilemy. If McPhilemy is right, then the RUC is as corrupt as the police forces in El Salvador and Chile which ran their own death squads during civil wars there. The book is now available from the publisher ROBERTS RINEHART PUBLISHERS which has a new website. They have made public the libel case against the book, The Committee. The Publisher is now accepting donations to fight the lawsuit. The book can be bought by the American publishers in Niwot, Colorado (303-652-2685) or you can buy the book over the internet here.
