MISSION STATEMENT

United Irish Organizations of Nebraska (UNION)

is a coalition of the Nebraska state chapters of several national Irish-American political action organizations. These organizations include: the Irish American Unity Conference, the Irish National Caucus, the Lawyers Alliance for Justice in Ireland, the Brehon Law Society, theIrish-American Labor Coalition, the American Committee for Ulster Justice, Irish Republican Web Action Committee and the American Irish Human Rights Commission.

We have formal associations with the Omaha Area Emerald Society, the Omaha Area Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Omaha Area Irish Northern Aid.

UNION is non-partisan and non-sectarian. It is the largest Irish American political action coalition in Nebraska. UNION does not accept membership dues nor dispense monetary contributions to any political candidate, political party or political action committee. UNION has no treasury and no member is paid or recompensed for his or her services. Our members pay annual membership dues to their respective national organizations and automatically qualify for membership in UNION.

UNION has two primary goals: the reunification of 32 counties of Ireland and the right of the Irish people to national self-determination. We endeavor to achieve our goals by working within the American democratic system. Our top priorities include

  • (1) the passage of a federal MacBride law;
  • (2) the cessaton of the use of plastic bullets by British forces in the north of Ireland;
  • (3) an end to the deportations of Irish political asylum seekers in the U. S.: and
  • (4) a comprehensive investigation into alleged British human rights violations against the Irish people.

UNION asserts that the root cause of conflict in the north of Ireland is injustice arising from the continued colonial occupation of that part by Britain. We assert that the eventual re-unification of the 32 counties of Ireland is irreducible and non-negotiable and a date must be set for Britain to leave Ireland. We are dedicated to helping facilitate the peaceful transformation of Ireland to a single, non-sectarian, democratic nation-state in which justice and lasting peace may be realistic expectations for all of its people.
