Queenslanders for Constitutional Monarchy |
Dr Wallis has held posts with the Presbyterian Church in Australia as a Doctor of Theology, honorary pastor, author and writer of biography and history, and as a lecturer. He has been closely involved with the problems of the community as a chaplain, researcher, former salesman and former joiner-cabinetmaker from a working-class family.
Noel attended the University of Queensland and Emmanuel Theological College and gained a Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology and a Doctor of Theology.
Dr. Wallis is an executive member of the National Servicemen's Association and a member of the RSL.
A foundation patron of Queenslanders for Constitutional Monarchy, Dr. Wallis is standing as a candidate for the Constitutional Convention because he appreciates the stability provided by Constitutional Monarchy in both government and in the daily life of Australians.
Noel believes that the success of Australian institutions is directly tied to the Monarchy which sits at the apex of our Constitution. The Head of State is above politics, a worthy situation which can be achieved by no form of republican government. Noel is convinced that a republic would guarantee further political party control of individual Australians, and would erode existing freedoms.
All Constitutional Monarchists agree that the present system of government in Australia has served us very well, and does NOT signal a need for major change. If the Republicans were honest, they must admit this too! Amendments to the Constitution may need to be considered at times, but we know that The Crown is a secure institution, which has brought great stability to this country. Whilst history shows some good republics, it shows a mighty lot of bad ones! Many are still thrashing around. Democratic monarchies, on the other hand, have a strong history of positive performance on the issues of freedom, stability, justice and compassion. I have not heard a good answer to the question: "Why change?" The Republicans are a mixed lot. Some want a Head of State elected by the Parliament, others want a Head of State chosen by popular election, still others want a Head of State appointed by a Council of Citizens. They don't know what they want, but they are intent on getting it. Some Republicans are doubtless nice people, but their numbers include intellectual socialists, radical socialists and envious individuals who hate the Queen. The Royal Family compares very favourably with the American surrogate royal family, the Kennedys, whose patriarch made a fortune illegally trading in booze during prohibition. I am for the Crown and our Constitution until someone shows me something better!
