Traditionally, the name Hertog Jan has been a synonym of a rich beer culture. Hertog Jan, born in 1252, did enjoy the monastry beers a lot and was therefore frequently portrayed with a bottle of beer in his hand. His latin name, Jan Primus or Cambrinus, we still encounter a lot in the beer world. The history of Hertog Jan still lives on in the rich beer assortment of the Arcener beer-brewery.
