1993,
Bob and some
of the
others got a
wild hair to
go someplace
else. I was
not into
wild hairs
at the time.

First
Trip Details
:
There
had been
several
closed-door,
smoke-filled,
back-room,
secretive
discussions
about this
trip by a
couple of my
fishing
buddies.
Finally
after openly
asking about
the trip, it
was revealed
that each
year a troop
of seasoned
Canada
fishing
folks
traveled
North in
piscatorial
pursuit.
After
begging and
pleading for
a chance to
accompany
the group, I
was asked to
sign a
pledge to
snore
loudly,
drink
heavily and
fart
profusely.
With this
completed,
an
invitation
was
proferred.
Dennis Cox
and I got in
line and
went North.
What an
adventure
this was!
The red eye
fishing was
stupendous.
Never had we
caught such
quality
fish. The
red eye
fishing just
got better
and better.
Unfortunately
there were
many trashy
smallmouth
that kept
bothering
us. It got
so bad that
we won the
tournament
that year on
a trash
fish.
Words
of Wisdom :
Red eye
fishing is a
challenging
endeavor.
You must be
prepared for
long days of
angling with
only limited
results.
There have
been many
days that we
could only
catch a
zillion red
eye. Don't
be
discouraged.
Keep
fishing.
Don't be
distracted
by the
trashy
smallmouth.
Sandy and I
need your
prayers. We
have two
sons who
make this
trip. They
actually try
to catch
smallmouth
bass. Their
mother and I
have tried
to rear them
to know and
do better
but alas we
have failed.
We hope that
one day they
will return
to the ways
of their
heritage and
again go in
pursuit of
the cagey
red eye.
