1999 Potomac 7th Grade Basketball
Game 2 Summary: Potomac 50
Burgandy Farm 40
January 19, 1999 - In the second game of the season, the
Potomac 7th grade basketball team beat the Burgandy Farm School 50-40 in a hard fought
battle at the Lee District Park gym. |
Some said this was going to be another easy game for Potomac,
but the Panthers had to dig their claws in deep to pull out a win. Burgandy Farm
came out in the first quarter on fire hitting several of their first shots from long
distance to take the early lead. Potomac came storming back though as JD Deardourff
hit his first four shots from the field to close out the quarter strong, but the Panthers
were still down by a point 11-10. Both teams played pretty even in the second
quarter, but Michael Murphy's shot at the buzzer enabled the Panthers to take a 3 point
lead 22-19 at the half. In the third quarter, the game remained close, but Potomac started to get in an offensive rhythm and took a 7 point lead 34-27 into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter Burgandy Farm made a run hitting both outside shots and driving to the basket. With 4 minutes remaining Potomac lost their lead falling behind 40-39. That's when the Panthers decided to take off their gloves and dig in with their claws. Potomac scored the last 11 points of the game, mostly at the free-throw line to win 50-40. Michael Fischer, Brent Locey, and Pete Dalla hit important shots from the foul line to keep the game out of reach. Michael Fischer and JD Deardourff each scored in double figures
with 13 and 12 points respectively. Brent Locey added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Chris McNerney and Jason Aqui also hit some nice shots and scored 4 points
each. |
