February 23, 1999 - In the twelfth and final regular season
game, the Potomac 7th grade basketball team beat St Stephens 46-27 at the Chester gym. |
Both teams came out patient and worked the ball around on offense, however no
team had a hot hand. The Panthers decided to spice things up a little by going to a
full court press late in the quarter. This resulted in some steals and quick
baskets. Potomac ended the quarter up 11-8. In the second quarter, Potomac
stayed with the press and dominated the quarter with forcing turnover after turnover and
making their lay-ups. At the half, Potomac increased their lead to twelve points
29-17. In the third quarter, Potomac pulled further ahead and never looked back. The Panthers shot 18-37 from the field and 10-16 from the line during the game. Potomac also had 23 steals and 12 assists. Two players scored in double digits for Potomac with Michael Fischer leading the way with 18 points followed by Brent Locey with 12. Michael Diamond had 5 points and 2 steals. JD Deardourff had two block shots and Jason Aqui also blocked a shot for Potomac. The Panther's record improves to 10-2 for the season with the win.
