The 1999 CCAA XC Championships Won by Trevor Cable

At Fredonia State College on Friday the 29th of October, runners from all over Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties gathered for the CCAA Chamionships.  While Allegany Limestone were heavy favorites to win the team titles, the individual results were any one's guess.  Junior Trevor Cable of Frewsburg decided it was his turn to win this year as he beat the 1997 champion Dustin Thomas with a time of 16:09 on the 3.0 mile course.  Thomas finished close behind in 16:14 and is sure to be back next week at sectionals to try for revenge against Cable.  Cable came off the starting line strong, determined to lead the race from start to finish, and that's exactly what he did.  Thomas ran a smart race and pulled up even with Trevor at aproximately the half way point.  When they came back out of the woods Cable had retaken control of the race.  Dustin made one last effort coming down the long straight stretch before the finish, but came up short.  Logan Quist-Chafee Came in third to lead the Allegany/Limestone boys to victory with a time of 16:26.  Zac Palcic of Gowanda also ran a good race finishing fourth in 16:40.  Matt Briggs of Fredonia who has really come on this season finished fifth in a time of 16:45, just 2 seconds ahead of Jon Estes from Sherman.  Eric Strempka who has been running well of late for Silver Creek finished 7th with a 16:52. Dave Johnson of Southwestern ran well finishing eighth in 16:56.  Ryan Coon didn't feel well, but still finished nineth for Sherman, just 2 seconds behind Johnson.  Rounding out the top ten was Justin Miller from Silver Creek in 17 minutes flat.
In the girls race Allegany Limestone housed everybody as usual.  Tammy Putt led them and everybody else.  By the end of the first mile she was all alone and never looked back, winning the race in a time of 19:28.  Her teammate Lisa Haskins was the next to cross the finish line in 19:57.  Danielle Green of Randolph was one of two girls able to break up a sweep by finishing
third with a 20:03.  In fourth place was another Gator by the name of Krityn Fluent who covered the course in 20:14.  Kate Poda of Jamestown was the other girl able to break into the Allegany Limestone top five finishing fifth in a time of 20:29.  Then Anne Finn, Abbey Moore, and Erin O'Deay took sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively for the Gators.

Chautauqua County runners do well at McQuaid

Trevor Cable led all area runners by winning the A3 race with an impressive time of 15:53 on the 3.0 mile course.  Cable's win helped the Frewsburg bears to a fifth place finish as a team.  The Sherman Wildcats led by Ryan Coon's (16:26) fifth place finish were able to capture third place as a team.  Jon Estes (16:50) of Sherman was fifteenth, and his brother Jeremy (17:00) was not far behind in 21st.  Other top finishers in the A3 race were Mark Peoples (17:17) of Ripley in 30th, Aaron Darr (17:20) of Frewsburg in 33rd, and Nate Peterson (17:35) of Frewsburg in 45th.
