Sembia is a wealthy merchant kingdom situated east of Cormyr on the western edge of the Sea of Fallen Stars. It is a well-run, powerful, and organized nation of a handful of trading towns. The arms of Sembia are the Raven and Silver, representative of Rauthauvyr the Raven, founder of Sembia, and the trading wealth of the land.
The lands of Sembia are ruled by an Overmaster, elected to office every seven years by a council of merchants. This merchant council is presently based in Ordulin and is 22 members strong. The incumbent Overmaster, Elduth Yarmmaster, is just beginning his third term of power. He is said to be a mature and wise ruler, and a man of kindness and humor.
It is said, "When you look into a Sembian's eyes, you can see coins being counted in his mind", and the Sembian reputation for being money conscious is well-earned. Their kingdom was founded by trade, and lives or dies by trade. Titles and accomplishments, which carry great weight in the Dales and Cormyr, matter little when confronted by the bottom line of the ledger book.
