THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST
A young virgin named Mary, was engaged to Joseph, from King David's family. But before they were married, she was visited by an angel of God. The angel greeted Mary and said, "You are truly blessed! The Lord is with you."
Mary was confused, so the angel continued, "Don't be afraid! God is pleased with you, and you will have a son. His name will be Jesus. He will be great and will be called 'Son of God Most High. He will rule the people of Israel forever, and his kingdom will never end."
About that time, Emperor Augustus gave orders for the names of all the people to be listed in the record books. He ordered that every man should go to the place of their ancestors to register for taxes. So Joseph took a pregnant Mary from their home in Nazereth of Galilee to go to Bethlehem of Judea.
When they arrived in Bethlehem, Mary's time was drawing close, and so they tried to find an inn. However, the town was full of visitors, there for the same reason as Joseph, and there were no rooms available. But the innkeeper's wife suggested a small stable to lie down in. Having no other choice, Joseph took Mary to the stable.
When Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem to find the newborn messiah and worship him. The followed the brightest star in the sky until it stopped directly over the place where the child was.
When the men went inside, they saw the child with Mary, and worshiped him. They gave gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The Reason For The Season
Giving gifts on Christmas day is a way to symbolize the gift from God, that started on this day, with the birth of our savoir, Jesus Christ.
