As a former scout and leader, I have picked up some yummy recipes over the years! Try 'em next time your group goes camping!

WHAT'S IN THE BAG!

Baggie Ice Cream


Updated version of "Kick The Can"

1-tablespoon sugar
1/2-cup milk
1/4-teaspoon vanilla
6-tablespoons rock salt
1-pint size ziplock bag
1-gallon ziplock bag

1. Fill large bag half full of ice and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one and seal again carefully.
4. Shake until mixture is ice cream, about 5 mins.
5. Wipe off top of small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!

Bagged Bacon & Eggs

2-Strips of bacon
2-eggs
1-paper bag

1. In paper bag place strips of bacon on bottom of bag.
2. Crack eggs to fall on top of bacon.
3. Slip paper bag over end of green stick.
4. Cook over coals, be sure not to get too close!

WHAT'S IN THE POT?

Hobo Stew

Serves 3-4 scouts

1-lb of ground beef
2-cans of vegetable soup
1-2 cans of water

1. Brown ground beef in pot.
2. Add vegetable soup.
3. Add 1-2 cans of water, depending on how thick you want broth.
4. Serve with
biskits on a stick

Chicken Surprise

1-Can Sweet Sue whole chicken
2-Cans veggies and kind will do.
Bisquick and water

1. Dump entire contents into pot, including broth.
2. Fish out the bones
3. Set pot on medium flame.
4. Mix thick bisquick and water, dump into pot.
5. Add veggies
6. Simmer until broth thickens

FOILED AGAIN!

Foiled Dinner

1-potato cut into slices.
1-small onion cut into slices.
1-carrot cut into slices.
1-hamburger patty or chopped chicken, pork

1. Layer slices to potatoes, onions, carrots on heavy duty foil.
2. Place hamburger patty on top of veggies
3. Cover with another layer of potatoes, onions, carrots.
4. Season with butter, salt & pepper (garlic power is good too, just don't over do!)
5. Cook 20-30 mins over hot coals turning twice during cooking.
Be sure to use heavy duty foil and always recycle!

Individual foil wrapped cooking time guide:
Hamburger 8-12 mins.
Carrots 15-20 mins
Chicken pieces 20-30 mins
Whole apples 20-30 mins
Hotdogs 5-10 mins
Sliced potatoes 10-15 mins

"Hot Dawg" in the bun!

1-empty 1-qt milk/juice carton (leftover from breakfast)
1-hotdawg
1-hotdawg bun
foil

1. Wrap hot dawg and bun in foil
2. Put wrapped "dawg" into milk carton
3. Place in safe burn spot, inside your fire circle
4. Light top of milk carton
5. When carton burns to ground, dawg is done and bun toasted!

OVEN FROM A BOX?

I can hear you now...a WHAT? Yes kids, you can cook in a cardboard box!!

1-cardboard box with lid-the kind copy paper comes in works best
Foil
Elmers glue
2-wire coat hangers-not covered with plastic!
2-old pie or cake pans
Charcoal briquets

Box Oven instructions:

1. Line the inside of the box and lid with aluminum foil.
2. Use a wet sponge to dab on Elmer's glue to hold foil on.
3. Make several holes in the cover to let the gases out.
4. Make several holes around the sides near the bottom to let oxygen in.
5. Make tray to hold charcoal:
Take one pie/cake pan and lift off ground with flat river stones
OR
screw nuts & bolts to form "legs"
OR
screw two pie/cake pans back to back secured with 2-nuts & bolts
6. Cut wire coat hangers to make oven rack that will hold up food to be baked.
7. Insert hangers through both sides of box-two pieces will work fine
8. Test your oven to make sure the holes are large enough so that both oxygen is getting in and combustion gases are getting out.
9. Place charcoal briquets into pie pan and light
10. Put lid on top of oven
Remember each small charcoal briquet equals approx. 45-50 degrees!

GOODIES ON A STICK!

Biskits

Bisquick
Water
Squeeze maragrine
Jelly
Green stick or palm frond stick

1. Mix bisquick batter thick
2. Squish around stick
3. Toast on open fire or coals
4. Slide off stick
5. Fill "stick hole" with margarine & jelly

Hobo Popcorn

1-Tablespoons of poping corn
1-tablespoons of cooking oil
foil
Green stick
Salt and butter to taste

1. Take a large piece of foil and mold around 8 oz cup then, remove from cup.
2. Fill molded foil with oil and popcorn
3. Wrap ends of foil on stick as a hobo, make sure to close all seams tightly...but allow room for popcorn expansion.

Smores-They are sooo good you want some more!

1-Pkg of Graham Crackers
1-Pkg of Marshmellows
Hersheys bars

1. Toast marshmellow on green stick
2. On top of 1/2 graham cracker, place piece of chocolate
3. Slip toasted marshmellow on top using other half of cracker
4. Roast another marshmellow..cause you want some more!
