There are actually two very different varieties of Dragons. The ones that live in the East and the ones that live in the West. The biggest difference between them is that the Eastern Dragons are beautiful, friendly and kind. While the Western Dragons are ugly, nasty and greedy.
Eastern Dragons are called "the angels of the Orient".They are so loved that shrines and temples have been built as a way to honor them. It's believed that they control all sources of water.Such as the rain, rivers, lakes and seas. Most Eastern Dragons live in the water and some are even able to walk on water.Even the land and sky dragons spend their winters at the bottom of the ocean. Most Eastern Dragons don't have wings.Instead they have a growth on the top of their head, called a "poh shan" that pumps air in and out. This lifts the creature into the sky, where it can sail on the wind. They have heads like a cow or horse, with horns and whiskers and a pearl growing under their chin.Instead of breathing fire they breathe clouds. They range in size from as small as a silkworm to as large as a mountain, some being miles long. Some dragons lay their eggs (which look like beautiful stones) near mountain streams. The eggs hatch when a bolt of lightning strikes them. The dragons love treasures such as jade, coral and pearls, which they wear or use to build undersea palaces.Sometimes they even give these treasures as gifts, to people who they meet.
Western Dragons are the most terrifying creatures. They can have one head or as many as nine, all with razorsharp teeth and a forked tongue like a snake. They breathe fire and smoke steams from their nose.Their bodies are covered in rough scales, they have two or four feet with sharp, curved claws, a long pointed tail with poisionous spikes and leathery wings which enable them to fly. They can be any color, but the most common ones have green scales and red wings. There are some which are small enough to sleep under stones, but most of the larger ones live in remote caves. The larger ones range in size from 15 to 20 feet long, some as much as 100 feet long.
Western Dragons love to collect and hoard great heaps of gold, that they use to sleep on.They are always on guard, protecting their gold.Even when they sleep they leave one eye half- open to watch for thieves. If you were to find this treasure, spend it or give it away immediately because a dragon's gold will cast an evil spell over you.Slowly turning you into a dragon.
So considering the vast differences between Eastern and Western Dragons, I certainly hope that any Dragon you may encounter, is of the Eastern variety.
