Welcome
to the
Fairies Realm
|
(c)
Fairies are very tiny supernatural beings with wings and the ability to fly, often invisible to the human eye.They live in an enchanted land but have close contact with humans.The colors green and white are commonly associated with fairies.They delight in playing pranks such as milking cows in the fields, taking food or curdling milk.But they can be helpful too, they often take food and money to the poor, give toys to children and work countermagic to break a spell cast by a witch.
Fairyland is ruled over by a King and Queen, but it is usually the queen who is the dominant one.There is no death, age, sickness or ugliness in Fairyland and the concept of time doesn't exist.If you were to visit Fairyland, for instance 900 years could pass and it would only seem like one night to you.They live in houses lavishly furnished with gold and silver and much of their time is spent in music and dancing.They have two kinds of domestic animal, the horse and dog.Often they ride in a procession on their white horses, whose manes are braided and hung with silver bells that tinkle when they move, with the fairy dogs running along the horses.
Fairies are known to enjoy nuts and berries but are especially fond of milk and will often go into the fields to milk the cows.Though their food must never have salt in it because fairies hate salt.Many believe that a sudden gust of wind is caused by fairies, either because they're passing by or are at work.If this sudden whirlwind were to happen in a hay field it's believed that this is the fairies helping with the work and that it's a sign of good weather.A fairyring or fairycircle is a dark green circle in the turf of a meadow, lawn or field often surrounded by a ring of mushrooms, this is believed to be the dancing spot of fairies.So if you should see a ring of mushrooms on your lawn someday, perhaps there were fairies dancing there the night before!

Fairy and Child
Oh, listen, little Dear-My-Soul,
To the fairy voices calling,
For the moon is high in the misty sky
And the honey dew is falling;
To the midnight feast in the clover bloom
The bluebells are a-ringing,
And it's "Come away to the land of fay"
That the katydid is singing.
Oh, slumber, little Dear-My-Soul,
And hand in hand we'll wander-
Hand and hand to the beautiful land
Of Balow, away off yonder;
Or we'll sail along in a lily leaf
Into the white moon's halo-
Over a stream of mist and dream
Into the land of Balow.
Or, you shall have two beautiful wings-
Two gossamer wings and airy,
And all the while shall the old moon smile
And think you a little fairy;
And you shall dance in the velvet sky,
And the silvery stars shall twinkle
And dream sweet dreams as over their beams
Your footfalls softly tinkle.
