Happy/Halloween

Pumpkin

To a Pumpkin on the Ashcan

Pumpkin face discarded there,
Rakish grin and roguish stare,
Where were you on Halloween?
Whet uncanny sights were seen?
Air-borne witches? Did you hear
Sounds mysterious and queer?
Have you been bewitched as well?
So, you don't intend to tell!
There you sit and grin like mad.
What a night you must have had!

Costumes Ideas

Here are some easy to do ideas that start with basics you probably already have, and the rest can be purchased at a craft store.Don't forget to add make-up to reflect each costume.

Princess: Start with a pink leotard and tights.Sew a collar made of netting to the leotard and decorate with little gold bows.To make the skirt, stitch netting to an elastic band, glue velcro tabs at ends to secure to waist and then just tie on a pretty satin ribbon sash.

Cavegirl (as in Pebbles Flintstone): Start with a black leotard and tights. To make the "hide" simply cut shape from yellow felt (fold over first to make front and back) and velcro shoulder and side seams together.Cut out irregular shaped "spots" from black felt and glue on.Add a plastic bone at shoulder and one in her hair.

Statue of Liberty: Start with a green sweatshirt and pants.Using about 2 1/2 yards of blue/green fabric wrap around child and attatch at one shoulder with velcro.Make a crown from green cardboard paper, decorate along the edges with green glitter paint.Make the torch by attatching a paper towel tube to bottom of aluminum pie plate, then spray paint both green and decorate with glitter paint.Create flame by attaching gold nylon wrap to the pie plate.

Dalmation: Start with white sweat shirt and pants.Cut out spots from black felt and glue on.Cut out floppy ear shapes from white felt and stitch to a headband.Add a ribbon collar with cardboard name tag.

Sabrina

Little Devil: Start with a red leotard and tights.Stitch sequined elastic strips to waist and cuffs.Make horns by twisting pipe cleaners into shape.Add a plastic pitchfork.

Bumblebee: Start with black leotard and tights.Attatch yellow fabric around midriff for the bee's stripes. To make the antennas attatch styrofoam balls (paintd black) to pipe cleaners and secure to a yellow headband.Finish with yellow socks and black shoes.

Bunch of Grapes: Start with purple top and pants.Blow up purple balloons and sew or pin knotted ends to clothes.Cut the foot off a pair of purple pantyhose to make a cap, then cut leaf shapes from green felt and attatch, this will be the stem of the grapes.

Fairy: Cut dress shape from green felt (fold over first to make front back and sleeves), zigzagging the sleeves and hem.Velcro side seams together.Belt the dress with a length of rolled felt.Add green tights and clip on store bought wings or make them by bending coat hangers into shape and covering with pantyhose.

The Cow Jumped Over the Moon: Start with blue sweat shirt and pants.Cut star shapes from felt, add glitter and glue onto clothes.Cut cow shape from craft foam or white cardboard, add black spots and attatch cow to a stick or straw, then to a headband.Cut moon shape from 1/2" thick foam, trim with gold cord, add a mouth and wiggle eye and glue to sweat shirt.

Scarecrow: Start with overalls and a checked shirt.Stuff straw into neckline, pockets and cuffs (keep it from falling out by wrapping rope around the sleeves).Add a floppy hat.

Raggedy Ann: Start with a polka dot dress.Tie on an apron, secure a mop top to head with bobby pins, gather into pigtail with red ribbon.Finish with a hat and white tights.
