Pegasus RealmThe Pegasus is one of the most beautiful creatures on earth. This wonderful winged horse was created by a Greek god named Poseidon, god of the sea and dreams. One special ability of the Pegasus (other than flight) is the fact that he can create a spring of water, simply by putting his feet upon the earth.Anyone to drink from this spring would become a great writer or poet. Pegasus was first captured and tamed by Athena, goddess of wisdom. She gave him as a gift to the nine Muses of poetry, art and science.Only heroes or true poets can ride Pegasus.A young Greek boy named Bellerophon was the first hero to ride him.Bellerophon was to be sent to defeat a horrible creature called a Chimera. It breathed fire and had three heads, one like a snake, one like a lion and one like a goat. Each day the Chimera would terrorize the villagers of the town of Lycia. Before he was sent to defeat the Chimera, Bellerophon had a dream in which the goddess Athena appeared to him.In the dream she presented him with a golden bridle and told him to search the forest for Pegasus. The next morning with the golden bridle in his hand he searched for Pegasus and found him drinking from a stream. He was able to slip the bridle over his head and ride on his back. It was only with the help of Pegasus and his ability to fly, that Bellerophon was indeed able to defeat the Chimera and save the villagers from their torment. When the gods heard of this they decided to honor Pegasus by setting him in the sky, where he can be seen as a pattern of stars.
