They might be from Boston, but it sure sounds like Mike the Cat just came across I-40 from Memphis!

As evidenced from a recent opening gig for Jimmy Hall, Mike the Cat is a blues band that not only deserves attention, but demands it. The most asked question during their set that night was, "Who is this band!"

Mike the Cat is the newest addition to an already strong Music City blues scene. Fronted by Jimmy Stinson, this power trio moves from blues standards to fresh originals with relative ease.

Stinson, lead guitarist and vocalist, hails from Boston. He attended Berkely College of Music, and has among his credits a 5th place finish in the annual Boston Best Guitar Competition. Stinson moved to Nashville in 1995 to play guitar for Atlantic recording artists, The Hutchins, but now devotes all of his time and energy to Mike the Cat.

On bass is Mike Carty. Carty spent his Boston years filling in for local blues bands, and even spent one short stint as bassist for the pop band, The Drive. He has since relocated to Nashville and joined Stinson in reforming Mike the Cat.

Tim Grogan is the newest member of the group. Providing the beat from the drum riser, Grogan has played with Boy Howdy, The Desert Rose Band and Dizzy Gillespie.

Mike the Cat is blues band deserving mention among Music City's best, and soon will be.
