  • Commission Cheque = Pay Day!

Your affiliate sponsor(s) will have determined the minimum monthly amount of earnings to be achieved before your commission cheque is issued.  With some it's $25, others have a minimum of $100+ before payout.  Most will carry over the your earnings if under the required amount to the next month before issuing your cheque - or for however long it takes to generate the minimum amount.

Some affiliates offer direct deposit and Commission Junction will issue your cheques in whatever currency you require.  Checks are issued between the third week after an earning period up to 90 days later, so be aware of the payment schedule, required amounts, and method of payment.  Remember, if you live outside the U.S. and your cheque is paid in US dollars, it will be subject to currency exchange and banking fees.  Wherever possible, request direct deposit in your native currency - this might require a higher minimum payment, but is worth it in savings.

If you are insecure about your affiliate program, you might want to have a lower minimum payout to ensure your payment is received, but it is better to allow your minimum to build up even if it means being paid quarterly.  $100 minimums are a great idea since your payment once processed is of an actual value that it can be invested, where $25 here and there can get spent rather quickly.  Use your payments as an automatic savings system by opening a savings or other interest paid account that your cheques are automatically deposited to... then forget about it for a year or so!

Your commission cheques are income and should be treated as such. You may be required to provide your S.S.N. or other identifying number for taxation purposes, and are required to pay taxes on the commissions you earn.  Keep good records of the expenses you incurred in setting up your page or your ISP services to offset your earnings.  An audit of your bank account or your affiliate sponsor will show your commissionable earnings, so it's better to declare them and pay the tax than to face the penalties later.

WARNING! - If you are being cheated by your affiliate and/or have not received your payments, there is little recourse available to help you obtain your funds.  For this reason alone, it is better to research who you are involving yourself with before being disappointed because you didn't take the extra time to ask others how reputable they really are!
