Herbert works as a freelance photographer and over the last eight years, has expanded his work to include oil colored photographs. He feels that the exact science of photography combined with the freedom of oil painting enables him to express himself completely in the Arts.

Each image is pre-visualized by Herbert which allows him to control composition, exposure and filtration before the image is captured on film. A selection of films, and formats are carefully chosen to achieve the clarity or softness in every black and white photograph.

The final stages of darkroom manipulation involve choosing a pleasing type of enlarger light source, papers and developing chemicals to ensure each photograph is processed to archival standards. The image is then delicately hand-painted in layers to enhance shadow and highlight areas that compliment each individual piece of work. To complete the process, the photograph is carefully mounted onto acid-free museum board and ready for framing.
