I'd like to take this opportunity to promote some causes that are important to me.
Our 3 year old son was diagnosed this year with some serious developmental delays. Fortunately, I had heard of The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential and the work of Glenn Doman and his staff. These people have spent the last 50 years or so studying normal and abnormal child development. They have come up with some treatments and educational methods that produce some very dramatic improvements in both well and hurt children. No child is turned away from the program due to the severity of their injury or disability.
To give you an example of the results you may be able to achieve, here is what has happened with our son: In September, our 3 year old son Blake was diagnosed as being developmentally delayed in all areas by 15 to 18 months. We immediately ordered materials from The Institutes and started him on their programs through information in Glenn Doman's books. Within 2 months time, Blake's speech had improved dramatically, he had learned to read 15 to 20 words, and had learned to identify the planets, a series of musical instruments, and nearly 100 different animals. We are now starting him on a math program (yes, a math program for a three year old - they love it!) and I am planning to attend their 5 day seminar of "What to do about your Brain Injured Child" in Philadelphia so I can learn some additional ways to work with my son. The best part is that Blake LOVES his program and begs for more things to learn.
If you have any questions I can answer about these programs, please click the link below to send me an E-mail. Here are some links to help you find out more about the program. IAHP.org The Institutes for the Achievement of Huma Potential
These books are very difficult to locate in bookstores (I called at least a dozen to find the Brain Injured book), so here is a link where you may order any of Glenn Doman's books from Amazon.com.
If you are interested in getting acquainted with other parents who are participating in this program - there are two on-line groups available For well children or For hurt children These groups are membership only, but don't let that stop you, the membership requirement is just to keep out the riffraff and the spammers.
You can order more books and additional program materials from The Better Baby Bookstore
If you plan to travel to one of The Institute's programs in Philadelpha, Hosts for Hospitals is a wonderful program that provides free or low cost housing for patients and parents attending medical treatment or seminars at Philadelphia hospitals Hostsforhospitals.com
Heifer Project International Just as a side note, this is another cause I really believe in. This small non-profit organization provides live animals, such as cows, goats, rabbits, and even honeybees to hungry families. It provides a supplemental food source, extra income, and a network to help others as each family passes on one or more offspring to another hungry family. It's like the old saying "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime"
