PREMARIN is a hormone replacement substance.
It is made from the urine of pregnant horses, hence the name: PREgnant MAre's uRINe. If you break open one of the capsules you can smell the odor of
urine. There are documented health risks to women who take this
substance over plant-based estrogens.
This CANADIAN-made product is only produced by Wyeth-Ayerst Labs, a subsidiary of
American Home Products (AHP). This product is also sold under the
names Prempro, Premphase, and Prempac.
AHP has also been implicated in knowingly selling tainted baby food to
Third World Countries.
This is how PREMARIN is made:
Female horses (mares) are impregnated and, for half of their 11-month
pregnancy, are tied up in narrow stalls approximately four feet wide and
eight feet long. This is the equivalent of you being tied into a box three feet wide and
six feet tall. You would be able to sit but not lie down. These horses
can lie down by folding their legs under them, but for SIX MONTHS they
can not stretch out to sleep, or even turn around. Imagine being pregnant and being forced to sleep in such a cramped position. The buildings they are kept in usually have poor ventilation and little or no insulation, so these moms are breathing ammonia, standing in manure, and are subject to frigid winters and broiling summers.
They are given about half the amount of water they normally would drink
in order to make their urine more concentrated. The urine is collected
in a harness contraption that is attached under the horses' tails. These
collection devices rub on the sensitive skin and cause holes where the
skin has been rubbed away.
When the mares are due to deliver their foals, they are taken off the
production line, and put out in a field with no shelter to give birth. Their bodies have no protection against
the weather, which at birthing time on the prairies of Canada, can be
below freezing during the day, as well as at night.
The babies that survive are allowed to stay with their moms for a short
time, then they are taken away and sent to a slaughter house, where they
are killed and sent to Europe and Japan as a delicacy. There is also a
very highly illegal and growing industry of shipping live babies to
Japan for dinner.
After the babies are taken away from their moms, and the mares are
pregnant again, they are put back on the production line to resume the
cycle. There are up to 75,000 mares living in this nightmare at any time, and
they produce approximately 50,000 surviving babies.
The solution to this intolerable situation is simple -- economic sanctions. If
you do not buy it there is no reason to produce it. If you do not
buy products produced by American Home Products, they will notice.
There are many plant based and synthetic hormone replacement products
available. They are just as effective as Premarin and cost about the same. Take this list to your doctor and have your prescription changed.
