Answer 38 Happy Are Ye When the Rent Is Raised!

We were living in the America’s Best motel in Susanville, CA, at the Lord’s direction, offering our testimony of a sanctified life through Christ. Our mission, to so live for Christ, that others would take note and discern something of the character of our Lord.

We had fulfilled this mission for over six weeks and were ready for a change. On Monday, I chanced to visit the motel office, James and Claudia were talking together when I entered. James informed me that he had resigned and the owner, who lived in Montana, would assume the responsibilities for managing the motel. He also mentioned that the owner was raising the rent $100.00.

My response, “Praise the Lord!” I immediately saw in this announcement an answer to prayer. As we could not afford the rent increase, I knew the Lord would be moving us. I was happy with this news.

Neither James nor Claudia revealed their reaction to my rejoicing, but they must have thought me nuts or something until I told them that I saw in this event, a providential blessing.

Concerned for our welfare, James suggested we contact the Diamond View motel several blocks away. While I wasn’t enthusiastic about another motel, I was willing to see in his referral the providential guidance of the Lord, especially when Netty, the motel owner/manager told us she would offer a rate significantly lower then the low rate we were paying at America’s Best (which wasn’t.) When God is leading, the believer doesn’t have to see the residence He has chosen for them, therefore we agreed to rent sight unseen.

Our decision to move caused some consternation between the owner and his wife and some grief for James who was falsely accused of steeling us away, however, the owner, not James, was accountable for our decision to relocate.

Even after the grief he received on our account, James helped us move to our new home. For his assistance, we are grateful.

From the Best Western, to America’s Best, to the Diamond View, we have lived and witnessed for the Lord. While motels are irksome, at times, the Lord is guiding and directing us, however we look forward to our next assignment with interest, hoping it might not be another motel.

Praise the Lord!
