Letter 4 The Brothers of Jesus

November 25,1996

Dear Fred:

Your lucky to have a brother. When I was your age, I only had two sisters, your mother and Aunt Judy. They were brats. Judy would pick on me, and I would pick on your mother, and she would pick on the dog, and who knows, the dog probably picked on, maybe the cat, and the cat picked on the mouse.

But, seriously, you are lucky to have a brother to play with and talk to. I didn’t have any brothers, and I didn’t have any one to play with. That was a bore.

Can you name several brothers in the Bible and what the it says happened to them? Ask your mother to help you if you can’t name them all.

Can you name any of the brothers of Jesus. He had several and the Bible tells us what their names were. I wonder what it was like to live in the same house with Jesus? But we don’t have to wonder, we can have Jesus live with us if we want Him and we can be His brother. So if we want to know who the brothers of Jesus were, they are us. We all belong to one family, with Jesus as our older brother and God as our Father. In God’s family, there is room for everyone, and there is no quarrelling among His brothers and sisters. Everyone likes everyone else and nobody hates any one. That is what heaven is like, but that is also what your family can be like. If you want to live with Jesus for ever, then you and your brother, your mother and father, must learn to be like Christ, now, for only those boys and girls, mothers and fathers who are like Jesus will live with Him in His family in heaven. But Christ loves all of us, even you and me, and He helps us love our family. In your prayers, this evening, remember to pray for your brother, father and mother, and remember to pray for me and Aunt Sevilla.

Never forget, God loves you very much; He thinks of you everyday and His thoughts are good ones. He always likes to hear young boys praying and He never grows tired of listening to our prayers. Do you hear Him talking to you? He talks to you quite often and the things He says are nice things. He warns us when we are about to do something wrong, and encourages us to do good things for other people and for our family. What good or nice thing can you think of to do for your father tonight. Instead of asking Him or your mother for something, try doing something nice for them, like maybe set the table for supper or take out the garbage without being asked.

Never forget that God loves you.

Grandpa Allen
